New guy. Guess I'll throw the crap in a new guy post.

I've started recently biking to work. Apparently it's 7-8 miles, which day 1 I went half a mile winded, a mile was my limit, I showed up at work unable to walk. Day three I'm perfectly capable of going there, back, and out wherever else; I even got lost on a mountain bike trail (with a GT Tachyon 3.0, yes, wonderful...) and took an extra couple miles.

Anyway, my one-and-only is a GT Tachyon 3.0 road setup cross-over. I've gone ahead and added a basket, mirror, and computer; I'll be adding a Thudbuster LT, Shimano clipless pedals (platform/clipless double sided) with Shimano M131 mountain bike shoes with one-way cleats, a Brooks leather seat, and probably a bell.

Yeah, I just bought the thing and added stuff. #1 was the horrible ride, since it's a solid frame solid seat post bicycle, hence the Thudbuster. Don't ask me why on clipless pedals; I understand physics, any answer I give you is going to get back a "... but do you NEED that?" retort, and I have only one way to answer that: by doing it and finding out.

It makes perfectly logical sense I'd buy a $450 bicycle and upgrade the pedals and seat and seat suspension immediately, having ridden a bike 10 or 15 years ago once or twice. Of course.

In any case, I have other gear questions, and that's why I'm here; so I guess I should find the appropriate forum...

Welcome to BikeForums.
Nothing wrong with clipless pedals on a commuter bike. Lots of folks use them.

Thanks :D

I was more referring to never having a bike before (well, I had a one-speed with a coaster brake when I was a kid..) and suddenly buying all this expensive gear to upgrade a bike I've had for three days, some of which I've never heard of before. :P

Don't feel like you're the first one to do it. Happens all the time.
