Introductions - Boy do I need Direction!

Evenin' y'all... I was an avid cyclist back in the 80s and after letting myself go far too long I decided I NEEDED to get back on the tires. I am a truck driver and have alot of free time in the evenings etc to ride. I am a big "Vintage" guy in almost everything so a nice vintage road bike seemed the answer. I found a one owner 1971 Gitano, not original unfortunately, but nice and bought it. Well, it lasted 3 weeks and got heisted from my truck! Now out of money but having the itch I found a CCM road bike and bought it for a few bucks. I know nothing about it, doesnt appear to have many quality parts, but the frame feels great. I just want to know if it is worth spending money on or should i just ride its tires off til I can afford better? I am going to post pics and info in the CCM thread. Thanks y'all... its so good to be back on the bike!

I basically acquire what I can afford and what I have room for. Along the way I've learned something about how bikes work and how to work on the. They aren't rocket science; in fact they are mostly just mechanical stuff that with a little direction and a few specialized tools can be worked on by an amateur. If you like puttering around as well as riding, just.... try things. Maybe buy a second bike so while you work on one you can ride the other.

Thanks to all who replied, greatly appreciated. I am a pretty accomplished mechanic, on most things, I own a shop in Texas where we restore Vintage boats and motorcycles. i am not a total stranger to bike mechanics, just been a long time. In the 80s I was a sponsored triathlete and pretty avid cyclist, did most of my own work. BUT!! I got way away from the sport and havent really touoched a bike in over 15 years, its good to be back. I am on a pretty tight budget, after my first bike got stolen, but I came across a few Mountain bike frames today. A Gary Fisher, A Haro and a Boulder.. along with some assorted parts. Considering turning the Fisher into a fixed gear with the parts I have for my daily rider.. any comments?

Thanks again y'all for the help. I live in Granbury, SW of Fort Worth, and my shop is in Weatherford. Now things have changed since my last post. The CCM was really too small for me, no matter how much I liked it. I came across a lady who wanted it for her husband, she actually had a picture of her husband riding the exact same bike sometime in the 80s.. very cool, I gave it to her. LOL So now, I am broke and bikeless again but smilin over the transaction! :) I do have a mid 80s Schwinn Mirada, very tall frame in some kind of pink/champagne color, bike has hardly been ridden. So my eyes are open,l;ookin for that project road bike from the 70s or so. Thanks again everyone, the search resumes!
