Bicycle Mechanics - Taping Bar-Ends?

This may be a silly question, but I'm gonna ask anyway:
My girlfriend wants bartape on the bar-ends (and maybe handlebars) or her Trek Antelope. She's doesn't plan on using the bike for anything other than fun rides or commuting, and in her mind, it's a cosmetic-only change.

Any tips? Has anyone ever taped bar-ends on a non-road bike?

She might like grips more. If not then it's the same as taping aerobars.

Start at the top of the bars - you can shove the bar end plugs into this end later and wrap down. Finish carefully and nicely. Done.

Bike friday H-bars are essentially bar ends , but tubular so there are plugs on each end,
so start and stop are overlaps, closed with a plug.
lacking that, you have to use tape around the end of the wrap.

I've never taped bar ends, but I don't see why not. I might do that on the next bike I put bar ends on, because I find myself never using them due to the discomfort of having my hands on a bare metal bar.

This approach might not make your girlfriend want to stick around, especially if you're trying to get her into bikes :D

I've taped barends and it does make them more comfortable and less slippery.

I used adhesive backed cloth tape but regular bar tape will work also. I started at the handlebar clamp and wrapped two turns to lock that end in place then wrapped up the extension and tucked the end into the tubing and held it with the end plug.

I've done this on my touring bike - started the adhesive wrap at the bottom where the clamps are and used the plugs at the end to secure the tape. Worked really well and if you wrap the base slightly thicker you can actually make the bar ends much more ergonomic too.

Just tape them. No big deal. I used to have a straight bar and bar-ends on my commuter and taped the bar ends. (I've since switched to drop bars.)

It's been my experience that the ones that are tryly capable in some areas and want to learn new skills will soon let you know of this in no uncertain terms. The others may play at a the mechanical skills learning but you can tell that their hearts are not in it. Or they may only want to focus on one area and are more than happy to let "their man" do the rest for them. And the others? They bat their eyes and coo at you to do stuff for them at first and later it's the "job jar" approach..... :D

And assuming they are and acting like you expect them to be will get you in more trouble. Better to offer help first and let them tell you if they will do it themselves.
