Bicycle Mechanics - Does Shimano Sell Parts?

I have a rear derailleur (RD-7800) that has a couple bad pieces and I'm trying to find out if there's somewhere I can buy them. If you look at the link below, I need to buy item 1 (Y-5v5 98010). There are several pieces in that part number on the diagram. The two just inside the u-clip are damaged. Is there somewhere I can buy that part number? I tried Performance Bikes and had no luck.

Theoretically yes... but very few shops carry any small parts to make repairs as we live in a disposable society and when stuff breaks we just buy new ones.

My local LBS is clearing out a bunch of these for $99.00 in the GS version... if you can't find parts this is a pretty good deal.

The parts are available, otherwise, Shimano wouldn't have listed them in that diagram and make you buy a brand new replacement derailleur. Go to another LBS, Performance is mainly retail. Their service departments leaves a lot to be desired. A good mechanic working in service should be able to hook you up.

I contacted Shimano about needing a certain part, giving them the part # , & their online diagram. They wrote me back to say that they only sell to dealers. OK,,,, I contacted a couple of dealers, who got in touch with Shimano,, & were told that part was obsolete. GOOD LUCK !

Your best bet would be if you have a relationship with an older repair/service oriented shop. Knowing how hard spare parts are to get, many experienced mechanics throw damaged derailleurs, brakes, etc into junk bins and save them to scavenge for small parts. If someone crashed a similar derailleur recently you'll be in luck. Otherwise your only option is to buy new.

If the part is on the Shimano Tech Doc, then you should be able to get them, In the UK, I have had no issues getting any part, if in stock at the UK importers, my LBS can have it on their normal weekly shipment.

I've had some luck in the past by calling Shimano USA and asking for replacement parts that were too minor for a dealer to order. They mailed them to me at no charge. It's worth a phone call to ask.

After 3 different shops told me they couldn't (wouldn't) get the part, I ended up buying the new RD-7900 derailleur. I called Shimano directly this morning and they said they have stock for that part and any Shimano dealer can call them and order the part. Now I'm wondering if it's worth trying to convince an LBS to order the part for me ($30) and then putting the RD-7800 on Ebay to try and recover some of my cost for the new derailleur. Looking on Ebay they seem to be going for about $75 so it may not be worth it. I just can't bring myself to throw it in the trash.

I have gotten minor parts from them in the past. It is worth a call.

banditgrr small parts order like that generally don't get put through for several reasons

1) Small parts order are a pain in the ass to track without something like SO tracker that does everything digitally on the POS system.
2) Their is a minimum order - even if that one part was in stock they may have to wait for more of the same parts to order it - this may be weeks.
3) There is a significant shipping charge even on really small items

That being said, every dealer orders off the same website - shimano direct. And stock levels can be checked for one of the 3 shimano warehouses, immediately. If you can wait a day, fire me off a pm - I can check availability of that part and you can order through us if needed.

If you're not in a rush, I say go back to the lbs you like the best and ask them if they'll order it for you the next time they put in an order to shimano. Stress that you're not in a rush so that they know they don't have to worry about it not being the minimum or extra shipping for it or anything (and you are just trying to fix it to put it on ebay, right?).
