Bicycle Mechanics - Grand Cru Threadless BB

What type of BB shell does the Grand Cru Threadless not work on? For instance is there a diameter of BB shell that is too small for it to fit?

Ask the seller? fwiw french and italian are only 1mm different.

Our Threadless BB's do not work on Italian threaded BB shells, nor will it work on 73mm BB shells, or Raleigh 20's with their 71-76mm range of BB shells. It was designed to fit 68mm British, French, and Swiss BB shells.

So its width of the shell .. rather than ID.. Italy is standard 70 wide.
facing off the 2mm to get your Italian frame down to 68,
may make it work. I presume..

They do make a specific Italian-threaded BB, too, yaknow. No need to go butchering the BB shell...

Man, what's with the blue and pink on those?

IMO it's yuck. The chances of it matching any given bike are infinitesimal.

I went a couple of days before pulling it out again and sanding off that anodising and painting it black...

The diameter of an italian thread shell is too large for use in our threadless BB's. it is designed to function in 68mm wide BB's. Not 70, not 73, not 76, etc.

the pink and blue...? yeah, that was a surprise for us in the first production run. We never specified the color (and why would we since the sample was silver?) so they made em pink and blue.

As we buy replacement stock, the finish is being changed to silver instead of clown colors.

Seems a pretty random thing to do, the arbitrary blue and pink... I'm having fun imagining the ensuing exchange.

BTW, it looks pretty sweet in black (I kept the gold and silver bits).

pulling up a dead thread....any long-term reports on the threadless BB? I assume there's no offset involved (ie, skewed spindle widths/funky chainline issues)....it seems like a cool way to breath some semi-modern life into one of the old, low-end Peugeot frames I have, and though it kills the concept of truly building this Pug up from spares I have laying around my workshop, I guess ultimately it could migrate the BB to any number of other bikes later if I wanted to...Still on the fence between this & simply getting the French threaded BB.

i have a completely threadless bottom bracket shell that is chamfered (cut at a 45 degree angle along the outside) and is 68mm wide (it fits the mavic pressfit bottom bracket from the early 90s) does anybody have any experience putting one of these bottom brackets in that scenario or any modification that can be made?

I'd be inclined to carve the chamfered ring bits out of the old BB and just use them as collets on a Hollowtech I BB (a Hollowtech II or other external BB might not be a good idea).

You'd need enough of the BB sleeve to project from the NDS to ideally mount a lockring.
