View Full Version : ANDEL or RD2

Okay, if I get the RD2 I won't have to buy a new chain, and my cog is 3/32 as well. If I get the ANDEL I'd have to buy a new chain and my cog wouldn't be the same as chainring. I just feel like the ANDEL would be more sturdy.

:( I currently have a FSA giomondi crankset and I'm not really feeling it.

I was leaning towards that too. I'd assume the bb for the andel would be cheaper than the rd2 anyway. If anyone has a 1/8 cog and chain they wana trade for my 3/32 cog and chain let me know! haha. I read that the andels are just rebranded all city cranks?

Other way around. Andel makes them, everyone else rebrands them.

You could also consider the SRAM S300 1.1 Courier. It's around $90.

what's the difference between these two and the origin8 propulsion?

The Origin 8 Propulsion sucks and the others don't.

for cheap bbs i still prefer a cheap square taper over a those $25 gxp joints.

s300s are ugly

i went with the eai cobra economy cranks. basically andels with a matte surface and aren't finished smooth. they're only like $60 retail

http://www.thebikebiz.com/EAI_Cobra_Economy_Track_Crankset_p/trk-cr-eai-cobra-eco.htm

use a 110 jis bb

Ugh forget both of those. Either sugino 75's or omniums, or you're better off walking.

But because walking sucks compared to having a bike between your legs; I'll have to +1 for the s300's

Can someone explain to me what a "zen like" chainring is?

Leukybear
04-19-11, 12:39 PM
Looks like this:

http://www.businesscycles.com/graphics/zen_heads2.jpg
BUT only costs a fraction and therefore only a fraction of the quality of the real deal.

Pictures don't say much but I own a couple and sugino really puts love in when making these, especially when you pull it out of the vinyl sheath they come in.

I just swapped a square taper bb for a GXP, and I have to say, the GXP is soo much easier to work with, easier to get in and out, and on the plus, if something gets stripped, you can still get a GXP style BB out a lot easier than a square taper

Cool, so now its between the s300 and andels. I'm most likely going to get the andels! I will keep you posted. I wonder if the current bb I have will work with them. hmm.

btw this is my new frame:

Depends on your build with that frame. More of a classic build, boxier rims, more chrome, brooks... Get the IRD Defiant http://store.somafab.com/irdde144trcr.html

If you are going the deep-v route get the Andels. S300's are ugly.

Good decision. If your current BB is 110mm JIS square taper it will work. You are probably aware that unlike the SRAM cranks, the Andels are available in a multitude of colors. IMO a silver crank would look great with your frame and fork.

I have sun m-13's, chrome seatpost, and a brooks saddle.

I would pick something more classic-looking like IRD Defiants for that build but if you've already got the FSA Giomondis and aren't into them, that may not be your thing.

what don't you like about the gimondis? i've seen a lot of different opinions on the looks but few about stiffness or durability or anything?

It's 2010, going back to an obsolete, heavy, flexible design is silly.

I got the giomondis because I thought they would fit the build of a conversion I was doing. They are not stiff at all.

The IRD Defiants may look similar but in my experience with them, I find them to be exceptionally stiff and a much better crankset all around.

I'm gonna put the giomondis on this frame just to see the look of it. I don't know if that style crank will flow good with this frame.

to the dude who's bike was stolen - I'm sorry. How did it get stolen?

scrod I too would win. been boxing for a while.

why do you think the gimondi's are not stiff? Have you tried them on the frame or are you just guessing?

they're both extremely easy to get out, i've never had a problem installing or taking out either bb. and those plain gxp bbs that sram has are pretty gross, bearings get rough pretty quickly (though they say they've redesigned the dust seals for 2011). i'd consider installation and maintenance pretty equal between the two.

It's 2010, going back to an obsolete, heavy, flexible design is silly.

going to have to say the crank arms and steel frame are going to be flexing much more than the crank axle, whether it's square taper or gxp.

really, i'd just go on looks.

Damn, av - judging by the way you talked about it, I thought you were unhappy with your Leader.

We reconciled our differences. I took off the Rando and I got flexible enough to comfortably ride the drop and suddenly the bike was a great bit of fun. Snappier handling, no flex when compared to the Jamis, it looked really sexy too.

as for the bike being stolen? It was locked to itself, behind a few bikes in someones yard at a party. From what I was told it sounds like some ghetto kid from the neighborhood walked in, picked it up and walked away with U-lock still attached. No one thought to say anything.

i did not mean it like i could not find one that wouldnt fit, it's just I can't find any with that same style.:(
