Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Has anyone removed the pedals, cranks, chain from a standard 12" wheeled kids bike to make it into an impromptu balance/strider/skuut bike? If so, show it here! I am considering converting a bike for my son.
Let's see the pics!
We have our own balance bikes, but usually teach kids on their own bikes. We've never found it necesary to do anything other than take the pedals off and we've taught 3 kids to ride in the last 2 weeks (and about 40-50 per year)

I had my husband removed the pedals from my oldest bike when he was younger. He loved it! I now have two more kids and decided to get my youngest a balance bike instead of removing the pedals. I really like the strider bike that we got him. I tires are great and extra sturdy. I ordered from a Balance Bike website and was very pleased. I also found some great helmets that my kids like to wear because and they say "way cool"! I think that it is great they you are getting you child riding at and early age. Keep up the good work!

I removed the pedals from our daughter's bike so she could learn to balance. But I don't have any pictures since they only stayed off for less than an hour and then she was pedaling around.
