Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How long

Did it take you guys to fine the "close to/perfect" bike? Did you go through 1 or 2 or 20?

Also this can be for anything, it doesn't have to be -just- for your frame/bike. Such as how long did it take you to find that saddle that you swear by, etc?

Haven't found it yet, but I assume it's going to be (when I have money) either a Vigorelli or Gazzetta frameset built up with the fairly nice components from my current SE Premium Brew.

I'd like to think I have - both of my Leaders are extremely different from one another, both suit me very well and there isn't anything I would want to change about either of them - but I'm not sure if I've found a "perfect" bike yet.

For now I'll just say yes...twice.

That's rad man. I think my next bike will be their 725 frame. Holy crap is it sexy.

I'd say it has taken me about 4 bikes to get to my current fleet where I think I have 3 near perfect bikes for what I want right now.

I love my sputnik. I don't think I'll ever get ride of it, I've done incredibly long distance rides on it.

I miss my leader, I never thought I could live with a 4 inch seat to bar drop and an aluminum frame...but after riding it for a few weeks I found myself in love with the ride as well.

What I didn't like, was my langster.

I would say one. I got involved with a local bike collective through a friend, I started learning about bikes and whatnot. I found a bare frame, nothing special, lugged 1020 steel 80's road bike. Not the heaviest thing, but no 18lbs ride. I took my time building it up with parts from the collective, learning everything along the way. I guess I got lucky because the parts I built it up with have been amazing. It's a short cockpit with makes for great heads up city riding. I have a double-walled eyeleted wheelset which has stayed true for over 18 months and close to 2000 miles. I've had it over 35mph, I've gone 85 miles in a day, it's been locked up outside bars and restaurants. I thought it was just going to be a boring city commuter, but it's my first love. I'll be keeping it for as long as I can, even though I have 6 other perfectly ridable (and technically more special) bikes.

Well, the only practically perfect bike I have is my Bruce Gordon Rock n Road. It's the bike that I see myself keeping for a lifetime, never selling...but who knows. I scoured craigslist like crazy to finally find this beauty.

I like my fg cross check, but i couldn't say it is perfect.

After owning/flipping probably 30 bikes in the last couple years I'm finally getting there. Determining what I like, what I don't like. It's a surprisingly long process. Or maybe I'm just too picky. For me it's not about the one perfect bike, but the perfect fleet. My ideal fleet would have the following bikes:

Road race
Touring
SS/FG for the road
"29er" geared mountain
SS mountain (not sure on 26" vs. 29" yet)
beater commuter

in the past 8yrs, i've been thru 12 bikes.. :/

still not sure wtf i need or want (except to ride moar)

I always think I found the perfect frame then something else comes along that I think is better. I hope I finally found the frame that wont ever leave my hands.

i have a modest collection of seriously high end bikes. none perfect, nor do i expect to ever find one that is. quirks make them interesting and different from each other. i enjoy every one of them and have no intention of selling anything.

I bought a 100mm stem for my IRO today and I am truly truly turly in love with it. It fits me so perfectly with my bullhorns that this will be my permanent set up. Though I way over torqued my seat collar and messed it up, will need a new one. :(

Is this my "dream" bike? No, but it is almost close to being 100% perfect. I think something with a 56cm top tube, 160mm head tube and 58/59cm top tube would be my dream frame, geared and/or fixed. Reynolds 631 would be great.

Ass for saddles, I switch out between a Selle Italia SL and a Flite, both fits me really great but I'd like to try a Fizik Antares one day.

Everytime I get a bike I tinker with it until I feel its perfect, then I always end up buying a different type of bike, and the cycle repeats.

my kilo is pretty close to perfect for me and it's turning something like four in a few months. jesus.

of course, during those four years i could have bought at least three more bikes for what i've spent on parts that made their way on and off of it. and i went through like four or five other bikes in addition.

my cannondale is way closer to perfect though and i think i have something like 50 dollars into it.

I did the same thing and ended up with a cheap Origin 8 that so far is working just fine, plus it's yellow :D

I'm the same way. I constantly change stuff on my fixed gear but the road bike doesn't change much at all

There is no such thing as perfect for me; just a bunch of bikes that fit my tastes which have a wide spectrum unfortunately for my wallet. I mean why just have 1 bike?
