Price point (http://www.pricepoint.com/thumb/3-Parts-825-Mtn-Shoe/Pedal-Combos-False.htm) has a good selection of pedals and shoes, but you should make sure they fit correctly before purchasing anything

Do what I did.
Shimano R540 (classic entry level road pedal) - 39.99 off nashbar (I got same price off tree fort. Better shipping + price match)
Exustar SR221 ($80 new, carbon sole + ratchet, $40 off crosslakesales on ebay)
Nashbar Sport II off nashbar if you don't like bidding ($40)

Went clipless today, been on clips and straps forever. Best feeling ever. You won't regret it.

Go to you LBS and see if they have used pedals, I got a nice pair of Aliums for $20 recently.

I was looking into clipless today, too. I have some Aliums just sitting around that came off another bike, but I need shoes and cleats. I think I'm just going to wait around on eBay, and if all goes well, I will have a solid clipless setup for around $55.

Am I crazy for to use clipless on a polo bike?

I have a set of M540 that are totally messed and have uber low tension...

Or go the CL route. My wife did this and got a brand new pair of Lake touring shoes for 35.00 w/cleats. Deals that good don't normally come up. Don't need shoes myself, but I run across good deals in my size (44/9.5) all the time on CL.

funky size shoe deals are pretty easy to come by.
