as a bike mech, i noticed that many of the bikes that comes with manitou black or what ever, the wheels just goes either left or right. i mean the wheel just go slanted left or right. the forks dropout are not in the same lenght!! haven't they got themselves a quality control panel or someone who could check the quality of what they are spreading on this whole wide world!!! and Promax too!! their mechanical disc brakes are way too poorly designed so the brake pads just goes way out of allignment or moves out of place so even right out of the bike package the disc just rattles so bad you come to think the bike comes with a built-in bell. WITH ALL DUE RESPECT PEOPLE !! WHATS GOING ON HERE!!

Yeah thats the Lefty fork. But blackshadow...Thats weird. I dunno about the disc brakes but lets say Mech's aren't the best disc brakes. I don't think much of Promax so it doesn't supprised me. The fork thing is odd. One leg is longer then the other? That seems weird. Only time I've seen something like that is when I was over my friends and the DNM fork he was borrowing had one leg that was like 2 inches longer then the other. But it was only because it was the rebound leg and the compression leg didn't extend the entire distance. It was kind of weird. But It made sense once I figured it out.

yup - the lefty's a different thing altogether methinks. but that sounds like some forking (excuse the pun) bad QC issues - i mean different length?! i guess the lefty would never run into that problem.
hmmm... cue Raiyn's "manipoo" comment in 5... 4.. 3.. 2...

cool i was some what right.
MANIPOO
In all seriousness I've never liked manipoo and promax is strictly low end garbage. There's low end then there's low end GARBAGE ProMax fits in the second catagory.

Just out of curiosity, why do you dislike Manitou?
Just out of curiosity, why do you dislike Manitou?Everything I've ever ridden from them has been like a wet noodle. The seals they used to run were complete *******. Also, they messed up a bunch of trails out in AZ or NV for a photo shoot. The only thing I've liked out of Answer / Manitou is a pair of shoes I have.

i tried out a set of promax disc brakes and i probably had better performance iwth V brakes. You can get the promax to work decent if you really adjust it right, but i mean its super touchy, you really have got ot get the right point or its just crap, it isnt worth it. Its the bottom of the barrell, the crappiest crap.

No it's UNDER the barrel. It's the stuff that oozed out.

I too like Manitou.....and jeff the only reason my fork does it is because it doesnt have a brake arch. I still want to try riding a Dorado......

I have some Promax hydraulic brakes and they work great. They are stronger and a lot smoother than some (Hayes I think) mechanical ones on my brother's Kona Stinky.

Well no wonder, Hayes mechs both SUCK and BLOW. The mags on the other hand :)
Virtually every Specialized we have received this year with a Manitou fork (2005 models) has had to have the fork warrantied right out the box because the legs are uneven or bent. I'm not impressed either, though I'm not quite sure who to assign the blame to.

i am also unhappy with Maintuo. i have a Black Super air , the bike shop set it up according to my weight 250lbs and i did not like the feel way to rigid so i took some air out and and put more in but still now sweet spot for me. the fork has no defects but i still hate it. i'm going for plush curently i'm running a roxshock psylo xc 2001 on my brand new 04 bike and witing for my fox talas to come in(and then my wife will kill me).
look for it on ebay in a few days.
not to mention the lbs hooked me up with a 05 black

what im referring to, is Manitou Six, Black, and their 2005 model of their cheapy fork. once you set the front wheel in, the wheel will just go sideways. making you think that the wheel was improperly aligned. but its not! go to your LBS and ask them about this and for sure all this is happening. Manitou is creating for themselves a fork that would ruin the reputation of their good forks!! just this morning i again assembled a brand new bike that comes with a f#*ked up Manituo! Are they reading this???????

Specialized added to their menu the Promax crappy mechanical disc brakes. they come with the Hardrock and surely enough the bike sells like pancakes. all was sold so quickly!! all of them came back so quickly also with the same problem. The cowpie called Promax. they came angry and almost red like strawberry in anger coz they ended up their weekend walking the dogs instead of riding a bike like they have spoons being pulled behind! i love Specialized so much but to add Promax to the menu is a bit of dissapointment! :(

i've been to a lot of breaks assembly, mechs and hydra, but the promax really needs a doctor. it needs dissecting and suturing. if i had a CT scan with me, i might have summoned its faithful service.
