Hi! I picked up this Peugeot from a local seller for around $50. I hope it's worth at least that much. If you guys think it's a good idea, I would like to do a restoration...if not...I need to figure out what to do with it. I'm pretty sure it's not a desired PX10, as it doesn't have the chrome chainstay portions.

Here is the info I have so far..

Frame SN: 2637481
Rims: Rigida Superchromix
Hubs/Quick Release: RFG
Front/Rear Brake: Mafac Racer
Pedals: Lyotard
Crank: 3 piece unknown?
Front Derailleur: Simplex Brevete 5G0G?
Rear Derailleur: Simplex Criterium
Stem: AVA Dural

Here are a few pics...

Looks like a 1974 PA10 (wheels are wrong, but they could have been changed out). Frame RD hanger, no DT pump peg, and lack of Aztec lugs puts this one above the UO series. Those wheels unfortunately come right out of UO land. I would be looking for an alloy set (nice upgrade). Should be a good project.

Looks like a great deal for $50.00, that could look like new in no time at all.

Would "above the UO series" be the same as saying a better bike than the UO series? If so, great!

I'm trying to figure out what is worth keeping as far as components go. I'm not sure how crucial it is to stay with original parts. I know that from some car restoration viewpoints, it is better to keep imperfect components on the piece of machinery, than to go with new ones. Example: Ditch the "plastic" derailleurs? Touch-Up paint the small rust spots? I see that I should ditch the wheels in favor of an alloy set. I assume that what I have is a steel wheelset?

Thanks for your advice =).

I love projects!

Ditch the plastic derailleurs, in particular the rear. But you are going to need to find a metal Simplex replacement to fit the oddball French hanger threading, or use a claw RD hanger.

Would you recommend steel wool treatments to the surface rust...and then touch-up? I'd rather not get into paint if I can avoid.

Hmm...metal simplex replacement...and also a vintage set of alloy wheels. If I ditch the current wheels, should I also ditch the casette, or what do you recommend?

Thanks a ton....learning here...my previous vintage frame was just that...a frame. It became a powdercoated single speed. I'd rather stay with vintage parts on this rather complete bike.
