Bicycle Mechanics - Replaced Grip Shift, but now slipping between 8 and 6

Howdy Mechanics!
I just replaced the grip shifter on my bike (because my dog chewed the old one to hell... no seriously... that's what happened. LOL). After I replaced the shifter I went about adjusting stuff and I can't seem to get rid of this slipping gear from 8th to 6th.

It's an 8 speed rear cassette, shimano capreo derailleur, and sram 8 speed MX grip shift (which is what I had before, except my old one was the MX Comp).

Everything else is shifting fine, just this one slip. Any suggestions what might cause this or how to fix it?

check your derailleur 's hanger ,it might be bent.

I just checked. It is not bent.

Stop letting your dog use your bike.

ok, check and make sure all housing is seated in their's stops , cable not hung up somewhere. the deraillur not bent ?

@Shimagnolo... will do! but she likes the plastic rubber bits on the old grip shifter. Go figure.

@bikman715... Stops appear to be seated properly. There are no sharp bends in the cable... and no places I can see where the cable housing is being squeezed. I can go back and add a bit of tri-flow into the housing, just in case it needs it.

yes triflo will help , if need or not. is the wheel straight in the dropouts ?

Shift to the smallest cog (8th) just fine. Shift one gear down (7th), and it instead skips to 6th.

try readjusting the cable again, it might be to tight.

That was it. Cable was too tight. I unhooked it to give it the tiniest amount of slack, and then rehooked it. That was the difference. It's shifting a little rough, but at least it's hitting the 7th gear cog now. The rest should just be dialing it in.
