Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Lined Baggies or Knickers?

Hey all - this is kind of a weird thread as I've never ridden fixed. I race rigid and singlespeed mountain bike, but nothing like that on the road.

Anyway, I'm going to be doing a commute to work from now on with my bike because it'll be far more economical. However, the commute is longer and a bit more arduous than I'm typically fine with riding in my...well...cotton boxers.

So, does anybody around here know of some mountain bike type shorts or even knickers with a thin, fast drying liner?

For example, does anybody make something like the Chrome Loop Pro for less than $140?

ride in bibs, get changed in the bathroom?

dunno, i just feel like lines baggies are weird off the dirt

anything MTB seems oriented that way.
I always use cycling shorts or wear them under basketball shorts. I hammer to work and sweat so a change is always needed so why not just lycra up and be comfy on the bike...

Nomad - the commute isn't THAT long. I just don't want butt sweat cotton shorts because cotton dries so slowly.

I don't believe they do. PI sells the liner piece from their baggy combo shorts seperatly. It's a pad and a mesh lycra type material that is very comfy and can be worn under anything.

Yeah, the "swass" can be unsightly.
If you're certain you'll sweat then any under-liner short thing would seem to be uncomfortable for a whole day at work, not to mention holding all that funk near your junk is a recipe for saddle sores. So I'd feel that changing will be smart for many combos.

If a quick change is not an option, and you just dont want to wear cotton then look for the Champion C3 stuff at Target. They breathe well, dry fast and some are better cut and stretchy for riding. Still may get sweat-through "butt" you might not.

Cotton gets wet and rolls up or sticks to skin, dries slow, doesn't hold shape etc.

Bontrager makes some NICE shorts that should be right up your alley. Pretty stylish too, you could probably pull them off at work assuming you don't work somewhere that requires business casual attire.

Endura makes some nice stuff. I'm partial to the Humvee Lite shorts and 3/4 knickers. The liner is fairly comfy and removable, so you can use other liners with the same shell. I wear the Humvee Lite shorts on my commute, with some kind of padded liner or lycra cycling short underneath. I still shower and change at work (business attire required), but the walk from the bike rack to the company gym is a lot less awkward for other people if they don't have to see me strut by in my lycra.
