Hi -- new here. I apologize if this has been asked elsewhere. I'm restoring an old steel frame from 1989 and the original tires are marked as 700 x 25c, a detail I overlooked before purchasing some new tires that are the more standard 700 x 23c. Will it be a safety or performance issue if I use the new tires on these rims? I'm interested in whatever advice folks here can offer. Thanks!

They should be fine.
Tires are oftened mis-marked.
If you can measure them on the rim they may be 25's

I run 700 X 20's to 700 X 28's on the same rims

As long as you don't go too crazy different width tires almost always work. The difference between a 23 and a 25 is barely anything. As 10 Wheels said, they're not always accurate anyway. I have a pair of 25s that measure 23mm at the widest point fully inflated. Some width considerations: http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html#width

Thanks, guys. I got the same advice from my local bike shop mechanic. I've put them on and they look great. Now to finish overhauling the derailleurs, polishing the frame, retaping the bars, installing new pedals and brake lever hoods, and this baby will be ready to roll...! :)

I don't know if tires are mis-marked so much as the fact that rims come in different widths. I can tell you for sure that the same tire will measure wider on a Velocity Dyad rim than it will on an Arrowhead.
