I'd like to combine bike camping with a fishing expedition, preferably salt water surfacsting. Does anyone know of good bike paths/bike routes along the New England coast with access to the water =and= camping sites along the way?

I have a cruiser with mountain bike gearing, and a bike trailer to haul the fishing gear and camping stuff. I'm not interested in eating miles as much as I am in sampling good fishing spots. I currently live in RI, but an hour or two's worth of drive to get to a good trail isn't unreasonable.

That sounds like a fun tour! I carried 2 fly rods with me on our last one. An 8pc 5wt and a Tenkara rod. It was great fun flyfishing for bass in the the south!

I'd say Cape Cod would, perhaps, be best. There is Shawme Crowell CG, in Sandwich, Nickerson in Brewster, There are private CG's in Truro.Wellfleet area and the Youth Hostel in Truro.

The surfcasting is pretty good in my area and there is a state campground in Westport, MA. I just can't think of another to CG bike to, except to Shawme-crowell on Cape Cod, 45-50+ miles. If you want to start in Westport, MA, you can leave a car at my house. I can probably pick you up on the cape and bring you back to your car!

Thanks for the offer, but my folks actually live in Westport! :D

I'm probably going to drive into Shawme Crowell, and putter around the canal bike path.

NBW (local club) ride this sunday Dartmouth and Westport, leaves from middle school on Old County Rd, 10:00am. Free, several mileages to 50 available. Let me know if you are going to make it. This is such a great area to ride in.

I thought you wanted to predict waves and would carry a board!

The first vision I had was a touring bike festooned with PVC pipe to hold the rods... should be a neat venture.
