Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 80's Peugeot Road/Touring bike (Need some information)

So I came across this old Peugeot that looks like it's in fine condition and i've been looking to buy a road bike recently.

Can anyone give me some information on the year of the bike and maybe if it would be a good grab?

i guess it would depend on the area like nwbikeman said. in Toronto if that's fully cleaned up and looking nice, you can fetch 300 for something like that, If you were to compare this to the crappy road bikes that sell at walmart or canadian tire up here in canada, this peugeot would still be far superior even though it's a lower end bike.

I have a 1984 (I believe) P8 that looks almost exactly the same, but my fork is painted the same burgundy as the frame. Looks like the same Nervar crankset as mine, with a weird BCD. Mine came with forged dropouts though.

Pretty sure you can bargain it down some (only in person is my strategy). If it was for you or someone's first bike, I'd say go for it. If not, I wouldn't throw my money at it, but that's just my personal opinion. Probably because I happened to snag my P8 for $30....

It really depends on what you want to do with it -- the Moto has much steeper frame angles, meaning that it'll be faster, but also twitchier and less stable. The Peugeot is more of a touring frame, better for easy riding around town. Of course, what really matters is how well the frame fits you -- if it doesn't feel good, it doesn't feel good.


Based on the level of bike activity I saw on my last trip to Austin, I'd say that both prices are probably fair for the market. The accessories that come with the Peugeot are definite pluses if you're going to use it for transportation (or you can sell them and probably recoup at least $40 or 50). I paid $140 for a similar bike in Richmond a few years ago, without fenders, rack, or lights, and did not feel ripped off.

That is a reasonable price for Austin,Texas if the bike is ready to ride.
