i'm looking for a steel track frame around $600, preferably less, for fast city riding. i'm looking at masi speciale sprint, traitor ringleader, soma rush, cinelli gazzetta, or anything else. i would really like something that was lugged with a threadless 1 1/8 headset, if anyone knows of any frames. anyway, which frame is superior in this price range?

Leader 722 comes to mind as another option.

out of all of those, i have an older soma rush. it's a great steel frame. it sometimes feels a little a faster than some of my aluminum frames, but i attribute that to the absorbing power of steel in general. i keep it at my parent's place in florida, so i don't get to ride it too much. however, i do fantasize about them shipping it up to me here in NY. it is a really nice ride, to say the least...

Bikeisland has a couple of lugged steel options, but both are 1" (one is threaded, one is threadless):

The Leader 722TS is sweet as well, but it's not lugged.

i have a gazzetta and its a great frame, but you could probably do better for less. i'm working on a LeveL build that's coming in way lower than what i paid for my Cinelli.

Oh yea, good call... though the frameset is just a bit more than the OP's budget and he said "preferably less".

Not lugged, but USA handmade quality torch welded. FBM Sword. My frame was around $600.

said it before, say it again. My friend has one, for the price I'm not impressed. It's a nice quality steel frame, its fairly light (competes with my sputnik but it has a much nicer setup) and I don't think i'd pay a dime over 400 for the frame set, maybe 400.04.

the one you linked to was $800, congrats to your lack of understanding. And what does NJS get you anyway? The answer is nothing, oh butz the street cred.....the street cred.

You're essentially paying for the legendary Cinelli name... which I'm more than willing to do haha

Street cred doesn't mean ****, honestly. for a well built, (not from taiwan/china) frame
lugged usually cost around 500 used, no matter the maker, it's just that njs, has a wide variety of frames on the market at any giving time, go ahead choose your color.
size could be an issue though.
I'm just saying, if you are about to burn 600 bucks, get something you might want to keep around for a while.
Milwaukee Cream City (not lugged, but $650, & tigged at Waterford factory)

yeah... i'm leaning towards the wabi special for sure. it looks awesome, but am thinking the 73 st will be slack coming from the 75.5 on a bianchi pista. what do you guys think, will 2 degrees matter? will i lose that track bike feel that i dearly love so much!!!???!!! NOOOOO!!! track bikes i love you!

re-read, definately say $799 which is not more like $500. I would rather buy myself something new than take a chance with a second hand NJS frame anyday.

I really don't get the whole NJS thing, especially second hand ones. Although I would have bought your Maxway second hand if it wasn't for those pesky cable stops.

Both more expensive than a used NJS.. if you take your time, and wait for a good deal, they are out there.

what point are you trying to make by posting two links to frames for sale that the OP never asked about? I could post a link to a Porsche and suggest that he not buy that because he can get a used GTI and have just as much fun. Your ramblings make no sense. And just because you may want a beat up used NJS frame doesn't make that the OP's only option.

GTI. Porsche , wtf are u rambling about? thought we were talking about frames not analogies that make no sense.
You sir are a complete idiot, can you even read? "definately say $799" I NEVER "definately say" 799 for an njs frame. also the gazzetta was mentioned multiple times in this thread (so they were linked). you need to take some reading comprehension classes. also the the frames from bike island are decent as well for the price. oh.. and back to your 12 year old statement "brah, but thanks for playing."

Is it just me, or do the Wabi frames look like their drop outs aren't perfectly horizontal? At least the Classic & Special frames.
What size are you? I have a unridden 54cm Kazane frameset with headset, 1", lugged, and a kashimax TT protector that I'm willing to part with for under $450
Otherwise just look around and don't buy into this NJS bull****... I got a killer deal on a Koga Full Pro Track... $500 NIB w/ 1" fork.

You'll notice a HT angle difference more. One of the reasons I love my Trek T1 (red), light aluminum frame, carbon fork, and a 74-degree head tube. For as much hate as Trek gets, they really did "get it right" on that one.
man the frames suggested here are amazing looking. definitely considering holding out for one of these instead of going with the pake I was looking at. love that Gazzetta and Masi Speciale Sprint

i have a wabi lightning (more slack i think, to lazy to confirm) coming from a trek T1.
it does feel different. and its a difference i liked
Get a wabi lighning. I rode this and the classic, and the lightning made me feel like other bikes are just heavy pos steal. That being said I was looking at the steel frame frome velomine. Check it out on their website. I will not provide a link haha, google it up dawg, it's like a track bike Brahmin. Super fast ;)
Actually here is a link, it's under completes, not frames. I knew this would get confusing haha. http://www.velomine.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_19&products_id=788&zenid=10nl9r86rikfgjke60rsfb4k91
