Bicycle Mechanics - making bikes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

i was wondering if anyone has or does buy frames to bikes, assembling bikes with new and different componants, then selling them. If you have done this i want to know if it was succesful, who bought them, and how it was done. E-mail me at Psychodeliklaus@ieatcatsforfun.com if you have any info

Actually I been thinking about the same... The only problem is that it gets quite expensive in the end, with all shipping costs for the parts.
Lots of bike shops do this though it is usually a very small part of their business.
For an individual it would be a very shaky proposition matching the customer to
the bike, not as bad as building computers for resale but close as your margins are
likely to be 'marginal'. Even small builders recognized as legitimate wholesalers have a hard time getting decent prices on parts. The big breaks go to those who buy parts in container size lots or by the cubic meter. LBS wholesale can be close to Nashbar or Performance retail on all of Shimano or Campy stuff. Steve
There's a guy Tom Christian out here that pretty much does nothing but that. Buys bikes, takes them apart, cleans everything with dental tools, then puts the best stuff together with the best frames. I've bought a couple of bikes off of him.
