Had a blow out on my rear tire this weekend, now I really need new tires. Front is a 20X1.75 and rear is a 26X1.5 and since I am around 300 pounds, I want some substancial tires. Problem is I can't seem to find a matched pair, things like Cont. TT2000 I can't find in the 26X1.5 and Sch. marathon I can't find in 20X1.75. So do you need to match the set? Do I need to keep the back at 1.5 or will a 1.75 fit? I have a Nexus internal hub with drum brake and have more than enough room in the rear fork for the added .25 inch (if I read that right). Thanks

It's not likely that you will find a set of matched tires in those sizes. What you should look for is similarity of size and tread. What this means is that given your weight, you should go with a beefier rear tire and then get a front that is similar to the rear for handling performance.
You should also note that a 1.75 from one manufacturer may be slightly different than the same size of the tire in anothers sizing range. Use your eyes if you can and also consider using a tape measure to size the tires. Use a non-metallic tape such as you can get in a sewing shop. One good measurement will tell you how a tire will fit on the rim.
You are going to also want to try some trial and error to figure this out. This will be worth it if you consider that your safety should come before all else when considering tires.
Good Luck!
