1989 Pinarello 58cm Amatore

hey guys, new to the forum, well newly registered. anyway, ive been riding roadbikes my entire and have had numerous frames, usually classic ones, i guess im a sucker for looks and just knowing that my frame was built with some love and not overseas somewhere. I currently ride a 62cm de rosa somewhere from the mid-80s and i really like it. i got if for a steal but the frame is a bit big for me, so im thinking about selling it and switching to a track frame... i want to try the whole fixed gear thing. i found this 1989 Pinarello 58cm Amatore on craigslist here in LA but the guy wants 850 for it... seems a bit high, especially when i searched it in google, i found out that that very same bike was for sale in NY for 600 a while back. anyway, here's the link, tell me what you guys think.

also ive never riden a track bike before and have been told that if im going to do urban riding that i should consider either converting a road bike or getting a newer track that has more relaxed geometry. im 6'2'' and usually ride a 58/59 road frame, how would i feel on a bike like this? (if thats even answerable...)

For that much money you could get a really nice new bike complete. If you are new to fixed gear, I would recommend getting a much cheaper bike to learn on, like a Kilo TT or a Dawes SST AL.

how nice? the thing is, my current de rosa, i can sell and not lose a buck on it. im kinda hoping that this thing is the same. also i know the tubing on these isnt top end, ie its not columbus but oria which ive never heard of. so, if there are any experts out there, how much is this bike realistically worth? also given that it doesnt have a single campy part on it...

Still seems like buying a Ferrari as your first car. What if you don't even like riding a fixed gear? I'm not disputing the fact that its a nice bike (because it looks damn fine) but rather spending that kind of money on a used one. Just my .02

Is this a joke? $600 for a fully restored, period-correct Pinarello??

BUY IT NAO.

Maybe you don't like fixiezz? Maybe it's a little big? Worst comes to worst, you'll be able to sell it for more than $600.

edit: Also, didn't read your post. $850 might be pushing it, but you can probably get him to come down.

about the not liking to ride fixies, well that could be true, but i know im kinda over riding road bikes, but not over biking. plus worst comes to worst i can sell it and go back, given i wont have a derosa but what the hell, a change never hurt

your answer is to try to talk the 850 guy down a hundred bucks or so, if that pinarello is built similarly to the other it wouldn't be a bad deal and if it doesn't work for you you can probably flip it for about the same, good luck, track bikes are fun
