Get thee to a bike shop!
$4.50 plus tax USD for a new cable, probably another $10 to $15 for labor!
I'm guessing if you don't know if you can replace the cable, you certainly don't know HOW to replace the cable.
The bike is done, once that cable goes, time for a new bike.
Or at least thats what I tell my girlfriend when she asks why I needed another bike :D

Wait! Dont have your LBS pay for one, the cable costs like 3 dollars dont pay 10 to have it installed. Go to http://www.utahmountainbiking.com/fix/index.htm and do it yourself :)

Yeah, its a very simple job.....all you need is an allen wrench, screwdriver, possibly a wirecutter.
If you have to ask if its replaceable though, probably don't want to do this job yourself. I have visions of a shifter with every moving part removed...
