Touring - Gearhead Frustration: Actually, it just doesn't matter....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Gone touring.
Bad day at work? PMS?? It's snowing again so you can't ride outside???
^+1, except the snow part. :)
The fact of the matter is that there are personal preferences for everything mechanical that interfaces with the human body. I accept the fact that some other 6' 190 lb. cyclist will like something that I may have found to be utterly unacceptable for me.

PS I do agree that a good touring bike's frame is simply a large rigid mountain bike with provisions for racks and fenders.

you can't tour off road with a road bike, right.

some 'expert' has made that decision for everyone?
Sounds like man can't go to the moon either. wait....here's some shaky, looks like pannier mounted, video of a guy on a loaded touring bike on a trail, like the Patterson Bigfoot footage......

Instead of OCD on the perfect rig before you start, just put some stuff
in some bags that work, and go somewhere, for a while. on what bike you have..

I've done a good bit of off road touring on 700c wheels shod in 32mm Panaracer Paselas. It worked swimmingly.
I guess you just don't have the skills to use a 'typical 700c wheel' off road, it just takes a little more finesse, a little more deft handling than your typical tourist has.

I should not laugh, but I did.

Current fashion always dominates but never rules, otherwise we couldn't have fashion.

Machka, I regret deleting my post, but regardless, perhaps you might realize with some reflection that your response was inappropriate for anything I could have posted. An apology is warranted to me for the mean spirit behind your comment and to women in general for your perpetuation of a misogynic predjudice that you intended to envoke knee-jerk-reaction giggles from the mostly male readers of this forum. All to mock me. Shame. Shame on you.

Lighten up. It was attempt at humor, not mockery. Misogynic predjudice ? Are you telling us that because women pms, men hate and distrust them? Give me a break. I love women, and I thought it was funny. I can't wait until political correctness goes out of fashion. Maybe she hit the nail on the head. They say that the more stinging rebuke, the more accurate the critisism. Although I think Machka can be abrasive at times(like yesterday to the blender guy), she doesn't owe an apology.

Gone touring.
Good choice. Touring clears the head, every time. Have fun.
