I was looking at high quality saddles recently and was wondering about all these made up names for metal rails. What are they really? I understand Mn and Va labeled rails are steel w/ manganese and vanadium used as alloying agents.

FeC makes sense. It's a steel w/ iron and carbon as its primary elements. What about:
Ti 316
Vanox
Ti-nox
Titanox
K:ium (a potassium based alloy?)

Seems the saddle companies are trying to pass off metals that sound like titanium but are not really. Understandable, b/c high quality Ti alloys are very expensive these days.

Mine are either a steel or aluminum alloy...don't see the point in titanium on a bike that weighs 40#+ :D

Steel, Al alloy, Ti or carbon fiver - just about the same choices as frames.
