Man, I just can't seem to get on track this year.
Sure, late November through December were kind of lost to the holidays but January was pretty good and I got some miles on my legs (felt GOOD, too). Then our March Madness descended upon us and there went my miles for March (think I got, like, 14 miles in all month). April was continuing to look good but then Mom was in a serious accident and ended up in the ICU in critical condition. It was touch and go for a while but she seems to have turned the corner... Meanwhile my wife headed down to be with her Mom and help her Dad for a month... it'll be 2 more weeks before she's back home (first time we've been apart this long in 31 years. Can't say I like it much). Riding always helps; I put in some miles to try to burn off some stress. Right up until I slipped on some back steps leading down from our deck and landed on my back/hip. Major, major ow-ie* I'm starting to heal up but I haven't been back on my bike in over a week and ahalf and it'll be a few more days before I think I'm ready. Jeez, this just sucks. The good news in all of this is that work is undergoing a HUGE re-org right now and I really couldn't care less. Having just gone through 3-4 weeks of *real* "life-and-death", wotk hardly qualifies.

* For your viewing pleasure, so many colors... that big red/purple blotch is 5-6" across.

You need to expose that bruise to sunlight. The UV portion of sunlight helps to break down the haemoglobin and allows for quicker reabsorbion into the body. Please do the exposure of the bruise in the privacy of your own yard, you don't want to traumatize the general public. :D Life will get better Mom and the F-i-L will improve and your beautiful bride will return to your nest and work will still be there and still be work. Now GO FOR A RIDE when you can!

I'd be proud of that injury and flaunt it while sorting the front garden so everyone can see it.

Now were you wearing the SPDs? If so I wonder if it could get a mention in Club Tombay?

No... no SPDs. Maybe I should have been? Actually, if I had been wearing them and I got this in a fall, that might have been kind of cool. It certainly would have been more noble :(

That's a big ooch. Sympathy.

But

What with things here and all, we were thinking its maybe time to move to the calm and safety of Northern California. Now, I'm re-thinking. Tanks on the street never done me no bruising. I think you all need a peacekeeping force in your back gardens.

Alright... so a week and a half after the fact, I went out for a ride. 11.25 miles.
Stayed within myself. Felt good. Especially in the drops... really stretched out the back.
I want more.

Didn't ride today. Did take the pup out for a run on the beach... unbelievably beautiful out this afternoon. She liked it, too. This males me happy.
An observation at this point in my recovery: walking bothers me more than riding does. By a fair margin.
I know...
ride more.

Glad you are at least able to get around OK. Hope it heals quickly. I guess you should do more riding and less walking. ;)

Nothing broken, save a bit o' pride. Heal fast.
