Hybrid Bicycles - Joining the Trek Club!

I decided on the trek 7.2 fx silver hybrid. I have to wait until tomorrow to get it because it has to be shipped to my LBS. I tested out the 7.1 and really liked it so I know I'm going to love it. Now, that I got that taken care of now which bike lock should I get? I was thinking a kevlar.

Yeah, I might be joining that club soon myself. I really don't NEED a new hybrid bike, I have a mountain bike to commute on that's perfectly fine. But I was picking up something at the LBS the other day and just for fun I test rode an FX. I'd heard so many good things about them here and elsewhere. Very nice ride. I was very impressed and instantly wanted one. The shop guy was telling me he loves the FX because it basically sells itself. He wasn't kidding.

I think I'm doomed to buy one at this point. I shouldn't have done that stupid test ride.

That's the exact bike I have and love it! It really is a pleasure to ride. Shifting and control are effortless. Here's a pic of mine with a rack and panniers from Nashbar.

Yeah, I heard so many great things about the FX series as well and than I had my LBS transfer a charcoal 2011 7.2 fx over because I couldn't bring myself to buy the champagne one. When I get a chance I'll post a pic of my baby although it is stock for now.

I just bought the 7.3 fx and love it. It is definitely a pleasure to ride.

About the only way I'd join the club is if I could get my hands on the 2010 Valencia. Otherwise, I can get comparable models from other brands for a $100 cheaper in my town.

Welcome to the club.. I joined the club and bought a brand new 7.3 FX about 2 weeks ago and I am loving it so far... Already have about 80 miles on it and trust me.. it's much better than my GMC Denali (eeeek, SOLD.. lol)

Hmm. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I bought the 7.3 last year and I ended up selling it recently. I liked the bike, and if you've ridden it and you're comfortable, great. I think what happened with me is that I test rode literally 7-8 bikes that day, and a lot of it was junk, so when I got on the 7.3 I was taken with the smooth shifting, lightness of frame, and the looks of the bike. Then after I bought it, in contrast to my other bikes, I felt much too upright, kind of the bear on the unicycle in the circus, a bit squished rather than stretched, and was always uncomfortable on it. I sold it and bought a Kaitai, which is also a hybrid but closer to mountain bike frame geometry.

Anyway, I guess having written a mild indictment it would be odd to say congrats, but I will anyway. To each his own, and if you're happy with it, great. It is a good bike and I'm a little sad I could never make it work for me.

In response to the upright position, the great thing about hybrids like the 7.2 and 7.3 fx (and any other) is the ability to make the bike your own. With a few adjustments or different parts, the ride quality and position can be altered pretty dramatically. On my 7.2 fx, I've replaced the low rise handlebars with flat bars and took a couple spacers out from below the stem. My saddle is about an inch above my handlebars, and the more aggressive position has made the ride more enjoyable.

On topic: I've had the 7.2 fx for about a month now, so I guess I recently joined the club as well. Congrats on your new bike!

I just bought a 7.3fx last week, ordered tuesday and picked it up friday, assembled-tuned and ready to ride. Love this bike.

After several weeks riding this bike I can say now that I am glad I went with the 7.2fx. I just simply enjoy riding around town and in general. It's also great exercise :D

my friend has a red 7.5 or 7.3 fx and she loves it. fx bikes are probably one the best kind you can get for general bike. I got the trek utopia but it's a little like the FX but I think it's a little better in certain areas but the FX are super light compaired to the Utopia, like 10 lbs lighter I think.

I was looking for a Hybrid style bike for my girlfriend and looked at Treks. I couldn't justify spending the extra coin on one of those when I was able to get Nashbar's Flat Bar road bike shipped to my door for $399. It is comparable to a 7.3. Actually feels lighter. If you can do very basic wrenching, mail order may work well for you.

I got my 7.5 wsd last Wednesday and Hubby collected his last Friday. We're newbies (forum and cycling) and we are loving these bikes :)

Wow. Thanks for that...I think. The bike looks great but now you got me thinking about yet another possibility of what to spend my money on. it kind of looks like the Portland but the suspension fork might come in handy on my all terrain commute.

well to make the utopia like THAT it'll cost around 1300. It's not stock. I replaced stuff.

Yes, I recognize the upgrades from the flatbar original. I've seen the bike in my LBS and admired it, I never thought of switching over to drops though. I like the cross brakes up on top of the bars. I am tempted to invest basically the same amount of money as if buying a Portland or XO-1 to have something a bit more unique. I was wondering about the lockout fork though. It is detrimental to keep it locked out for long periods if your riding is mainly roads? I might go on a towpath here or there but I wonder if the fork may be overkill and maybe consider FX conversion.

Thanks rider,i go to the VA hospital in Jackson from time to time,was there just last Thursday,Jackson has 2 bike shops carry name brand stuffs,did you buy yours from one of them? I had to go to Memphis to buy mine.
