Mountain Biking - It's getting to be that time of the year!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Winter, and for most this means snow and really cold weather. I have searched and found a really good website with winter mountain biking tips. For clothing and bike protection.

All who are wondering about winter biking and have questions feel free to ask. I'm sure people have the answers!

Winter riding is not a problem to me. If its cold I make certain that I have the Roubaix material long sleeve top on with a pertex over the top if if its dry. The goretex if its wet, and if its very cold, The no sleeve body warmer on. If its very cold I wear the Long shorts that cover the knees and never have a problem-- EXCEPT, My feet. They get frozen. The only thing that seems to work is seal socks next to the foot, a plastic bag over the top and then another pair of warm socks. Not pretty, but how do the rest of you keep your tootsies warm when the Thermometer drops to below freezing?

You guys do know there is a subforum devoted to "Winter Cycling" don't you?

As far as winter goes for me, this is when it becomes the PREMIER time of year for riding! Remember, I live in Florida.

That doesn't look like a tongue sticking out at all. I always thought that was a girl puckering her lips for a kiss haha

Snow = no riding here. Too deeps and powdery. Theonly time we ride is two groups.

1 - wait until the lake freezes over and races in exciting circles after shovelling for two days

2 - builds snow jumps and hucks themselves off of stuff cause it won't hurt as much...

Haha, guess so. I saw an article once about a "ski-bike"...it's like a long-travel DH bike but with ski runners instead of wheels...that might be fun in the snow!

The resorts here in CO actually rent them out, although some people definately shouldn't be on them.

icebike.com is a really good site for finding out tips that are tested and work. I have my own methods of riding once it gets cold and so far so good here in MI.

To others. Same issues skiers had in the late 80's to 90's. Irratic driving, unkown results and just generally hurting others.

I wore fingerless gloves this morning and absolutely froze my fingers on my ride this morning. I am going to the LBS to pick up some real gloves.

Hehe, when it rains here, it really rains, I live about 10 mins away from the sea, in every direction, so you always see on the regional news floods, it makes for a very interesting year of riding, I would rather ride in the clod and rain than in the baking sun, but i suppose many other people would :P

Due to the weather being like it is here, im climatised (so to speak) and after about 10 minutes of light riding im warmed up and raring to go, every ride i go on im in my Roach jersey, my roach tee-shirt and a pair of shorts, the cold just doesnt effect me when im on my bike...
