IDEA - The Taco Ride

These folks out Iowa way have a fine idea - a weekly taco ride...

From the Rails to Trails E zine...

"But trail supporters don't always have their noses to the grindstone. Every Thursday night on the northern section of trail, when the weather is nice, they throw a rolling party known as the "taco ride." The tradition began several years ago when a group of riders decided to cycle the 14-mile stretch from Council Bluffs to a bar in Silver City with a Thursday taco special. When the bar closed, the riders switched to a steakhouse in Mineola (about four miles closer), and the owners put tacos on the menu to accommodate the hungry riders. These days, it's not unusual for several thousand cyclists to turn out on a Thursday night, stream down the trail, stop for refreshments at a picnic area they've dubbed "Margaritaville," and swarm the Mineola Steakhouse. The ride is so popular it even has its own website: www.tacoride.com."

One of the riders noted that THE Taco Ride is Thur. before 4 July, when thousands attend.

You need to add this to the SoCal 2011 Events Calendar (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/702325-SoCal-2011-Events-Calendar) and Regional Rides and Events (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php/302-Southern-California-Regional-Rides-and-Events).

No. Are we allowed to post a link to another cycling forum?

Must be. I've seen whole threads devoted to "best other helpful cycling websites"...:)

It is out in Iowa.

Be nice to have something similar here, but where and which trail? I don't think we lack the taco options.

Pancake Ride? :)

My name is John and I am the PM Manager for the 24-hour IHOP in Encino.
Like most of you I love bicycling and always looking for ways to make people aware of bicyclists when sharing the road.
Since starting my job I have not been able to participate in as many rides as I have in the past, but I recently pitched an idea which promotes and supports the bicycling community.
I would like to offer any organized rides to our location some kind of discount or incentive for choosing our establishment as start, rest, or end point. Please contact me if you are planning a ride so I can properly staff the restaurant. If any clubs are interested in collaborating for fundraising, please let me know.
Please reply to this thread if you are planning a ride to our IHOP located at:
15635 Ventura Blvd.
Encino, CA 91436
818.783.4470

This restaurant is located off the Metro Orange Line bike path and the perfect place to regroup and replenish.

Print this post and bring it in for a 20% discount! ((Offer expires May 31, 2011))

I ride with a group just about every Friday morning. We usually roll down SART to HB Main Street, take breakfast at the Sugar Shack, and ride back. Nobody eats tacos, but several folks get the Mini Special. (I usually get the "half benny" myself, a half portion of Eggs Benedict.) So for most of us, this is the mini special ride, and for me, it's the half benny ride.

That sounds like a pretty fast ride back in, everybody would be racing each other to stay at the front of the pack.

Where are you? We have an 830 Sunday ride in North SD County. Usually about 60 miles at a moderate pace.

My house is 90 miles from downtown LA.

The club usually meets in San Marcos but the Sunday ride has several meetup spots. This Sunday it's in Carlsbad.

One place i know that has great tacos and food plus they serve Margaritas is El Borrito #2 at Seal Beach just infront of the pier on Ocean Blvd just east of Main St. That is not a bad turn around point. Its 9 miles from Huntington Beach pier. They have seating and a take out window. There is a park right across the street next to the pier.

Could setup a ride for this Sunday May 22 to Tommys Burger @ Beverly and Rampart. For $0,65 you get a chilli cheese burger and a coke.

There is a midnightridazz ride on wednesday night that ends in food, you might want to consider that.
