Eastern Canada - Tuesday Night Ride - Toronto - From Lakeshore

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will be riding after work on Tuesdays, so if anyone wants to join in, here are some details:

Start at Martin Goodman Trail at Strachan, which is across from the Princes Gates. (by the hot dog vendor)

Time: 6:15pm, starting Tuesday May 10, and hopefully right through end of September.

The general direction will be west along the Martin Goodman Trail and then Lakeshore, towards Mississauga, about 60-70km return.

This is not an all-out hammer-fest, but should be a brisk pace for roadies, experienced or not.

Here are a couple of suggested routes, designed in a somewhat rudimentary fashion.

So, feel free to meet me at the start, or along the route. And also feel free to suggest alternative routes.

Southdown road has a lot of heavy truck traffic at all hours as does the section of the Lakeshore between Southdown and Winston Churchill.

yes, there are trucks, but really not that many, and the road is well paved and wide enough. This is a very commonly cycled route. Also, there is an adjacent path so this road can be circumvented if one if concerned about vehicles.

Ok. So it's a lot more bike friendly than it used to be because it was a very dangerous road for cyclists at one time.

I ride on Southdown road all the time, and I have no problem with traffic. It's wide enough for trucks to acommodate cyclists without interfering with traffic flow.

i've been on that stretch a few times and i agree it's pretty bike friendly. there are trucks, but it's a very wide road with very wide lanes.

Last week was a washout, but we are back on this week, and beyond. I will not be there every week, so whoever is there, just ride on by 6:15 (or maybe wait a few minutes for any stragglers)

Hey guys, just wondering whats up. I was at the hotdog vendor with the red umbrellas at Strachan, right on the bike path from 5:55 to 6:10 yesterday (tuesday, June 14) and I didnt see anyone else waiting around as if for a ride. was I in the wrong place? wrong time? did this ride get cancelled/postponed? Lemme know. Im down to go every rain-free tuesday so keep me in the loop :)
My name is Rob, I just started riding about a month ago. Im on a black/white/red specialized, with black shorts, blk/red/white Becel jersey and a blue and grey helmet. Feel free to say hello. Thanks! :)

Hey Rob,
Sorry there were no-shows. The idea is that whoever shows up rides together, as I cannot make it every week. Also, the group that does show up may split based on speed/pace, so just something to keep in mind.
I hope to be there next Tue

Damn, Im sad I missed you guys (and gals?). I was there from 5:50 to around 6:05-6:10... I'll wait longer next time.
Its kinda good that I missed you guys though...I was really sore from a fast ride on monday and with headwind on the way back I must have been doing 10km/h... Usually though its about 30 mins for me from Hot dogs to Gazeebo and back.
See you next Tuesday, be in touch.
