Planned a ride with Mrs. Grouch today. We drove 35 miles to Edwardsville to ride the Illinois bike trails. Assembled the Screamer and prepared to go. Can you say TOMBAY!!!?. Down we both went. Retro cracked his helmet. Mrs. Grouch says that Retro was talking gibberish, repeating himself, and some other things that I don't remember doing. She's probably right because I don't remember changing my shoes or how the Screamer got loaded back into our car. Mrs. Grouch drove me to the urgent care center and I was transferred by ambulance to the brain trauma ER. They did some kind of brain scan thing on me but didn't find anything.
Bottom line - Zero miles ridden and I'm not allowed to bicycle or drive until I see my primary physician. That means I can't work.
Not a happy day.

You might want to delete that part.
Mrs. Grouch and the Screamer are OK?
You probably won't be allowed to play football for a while.
Hang in there and seek help if you have any bad symptoms. The worst of it is likely behind you.

That's what happened when I got mine done. I hope your feeling better.

Mom took over on mothers day. You will need to make sure she has her day again.
Glad you both are OK - I am sure they gave you the rundown on what to look for over the next 48 hours.

No, that was intentional. It's pretty much the way that I feel right now.

I hope everything is OK. I'm not a physician but that sounds like a minor concussion to me.

I hope things work in your favor and you recover quickly.
Bummer. Tomorrow's got to be better; hang in there and follow-up with your primary physician ASAP.

Don't read all the press about concussion, because it will only scare you, but take it easy for longer than you think you need to take it easy.
Colleague just came back to work after almost a year of disability after a concussion. He spent the first three months insisting there was nothing wrong with him, and working through it.
Bad Idea.

Sorry about your fall.. hope you heal well. Meanwhile, can someone drive you to/from work? Can you carpool with someone?

Reminds me of a story I heard years ago about Dizzy Dean during his days as a pitcher. He was hit in the head by a ball from the batter. They took him to the hospital. Headlines the next day read, 'Xrays of Dean's head show nothing'.
Nevertheless, we are happy to hear that you have lived to fight another day.
Sorry about the Tombay.
Heal fast!

Just finished ordering new matching Bell Citi helmets, yellow to match our bike. There's also a mirror that's designed to fit onto the visor and flip out of the way when not needed. I ordered a pair of those too.
Zero miles per hour, a shorter fall from our recumbent tandem than from a diamond frame bike, and I still got my bell rung. I guess one could argue my helmet didn't do it's job but one might also argue my concussion would have been much worse without the helmet. I'm just glad that I had my helmet on so I don't have to explain why I wasn't wearing one.

Does a double Tombay result a Premium membership in Club Tombay?

No, but it automatically takes care of the witness requirement for superior tombays. Given the nature of Tombays, it's not possible to issue bonus points for unusual circumstances. A tombay is, in itself, almost always unusual.

Oh yes! Mrs. Grouch definitely meets the requirement for an attractive female witness.

Well, I hope this won't be near the setback your broken elbows were. Heal fast.
Oh yeah, good pick on the Citi helmets. It was the best seller in my shop, and I still use one.
I'd say your helemt did it's job perfectly. What would have happened if you didn't have it on? Things could have been much worse.
Heal fast.
BTW, how's the bike?
Sounds like something I would do!

RG,
Let's see, you joined Club Tombay, had an M.R.I. or brain scan and Nothing was Found, sounds like my head shots in the hospital. Nothing is there. My wife said she could have told them that without all the cost. Glad ya'll are now okay and doing well.

The Doc's maybe trying to determine if you passout first then fell. But if they found nothing where your brain is then it maybe something else. Hope you get well soom.
Well Grouch, I hope you and the missus are up to your top grouching form in no time. Good luck.

Safe to say they were looking for evidence of injury caused by the fall/impact to head. Nothing is good.
If I had a head CT or MRI, they would find JELLO or maybe cottage cheese.

Retro,
DAMN! Sorry to hear and glad it was not worse.
When last I crashed, the worst part was reading that symtoms from the concussion can take up to a year to present.
Best,
Jeff
