When assembling parts together for Nuovo / Super record front and rear dérailleurs, is there a store on-line that sells the correct diameter aluminum pins that can be used for campy reconstruction (Part 808/A and 786)?

Our local hardware store has aluminum dowels (both metric and standard) but in 1mm increments, the dowel would be either too large or too small.

I don't have the most accurate calipers, but it looks like the diameter is 3.5mm or .138"?

Thnx in advance.

Haha, I have been looking for obscure little pieces forever. Let me know if you find a supplier. This might be better asked in the classic and vintage forum.

Wow, those little pins are aluminium? Crazy.

Maybe you can get TIG welding rod in 3.5mm?

Oschner has some of those parts, though they don't exactly give them away...

I don't have the most accurate calipers, harbor freight, etc can resolve that.

No, I think the pivot pins are steel rivets.. , head expanded to keep them in..

why did you take them apart?

I'm using NOS free floating parts to assemble into a new/complete dérailleur (though I was missing 4 brass ferrules). I took apart an old damaged/twisted NR dérailleur to reuse its brass ferrules for the new project as the rest of it hits the recycle bin. The pin diameter was measured from the old/damaged R.D. The old pins are non-ferrous (checked it w/magnet), definitely not steel and its malleable. Still trying to source 3.5mm pins for the rear dérailleur project. Hopefully there is a supplier out there who sells 3.5mm rods/dowels/pins other than the Oschner link above @ $10 per.

I might have 808A, but from a Super Record unit. I'll check when I get home from work tonight.

Bump ... for those who were curious if a solution was ever found.
Took a bit of searching ... but LOL, the allusive 3.5mm aluminum rod/pin do exist (ie. solid non-tapered aluminum knitting needles size US4 are 3.5mm O.D.) Cut the to length, some are even made of hi-grade 6064. The only other option that was listed is the $10 per pin link above :(
