A neighbor was throwing away a beat-up old Instep Child trailer. It is identical to this one: http://www.amazon.com/InStep-Quick-EZ-Bicycle-Trailer/dp/B001VJGI4G
Of course, it was tattered with some light rust and bad tubes. I stripped it down and made a cargo trailer with it using scrap wood from my garage. All is good.
The hubs on the wheels, however are not in the best shape, but I think they are quite salvageable. I'm not a bike mechanic, but I have cone wrenches and have done hub re-greasing before. Very handy and not afraid.
These have the plastic solid wheels that are common on trailers and strollers. A solid axle about 1/2" thick comes out of it and locks into the frame from ones side. (have a look at the picture)
I tried taking these apart, and got the retaining ring off and the axle removed, but I can't figure out after that how to clean and re-grease the things. Anyone work on these before? Are they user-serviceable or are they to just be replaced?
