I'm back into commuting. I am a big girl. No weight numbers here!! I'm getting a hybrid which of course comes with those super comfy seats. Its not so comfy for long. So my question is what kind of seat should I look for a big girl as of now?

You may as well start at the top for the bottom. :)

Wait until you get the bike, adjust it properly, and see how the original seat is. After that, saddles are so personal. I like Brooks saddles as well, but others just don't.

Make sure you get your sit bones measured at a bike shop first so you can make sure any saddle you try will fit. The Brooks Champion Flyer looks like a winner for an upright hybrid. My wife uses the Terry Cite X and seems to like it.

Wow they look very nice and I'm sure they are great but I don't think I can afford 100.00 for a seat. Anything a wee bit less? LOL

Ok more my price line and I was looking at terrys stuff. I may just go that way but I will keep my eyes open. Thanks :)

I struggled with this issue on my hybrid.

I ended up borrowing the neighbors skinnier Trek bike seat. She thinks that it was a cheap seat. It made a world of a difference. So, if at all possible, try out different seats.

Also, make sure the rest of the bike fits you right. Other things off may effect the comfort of the seat. I experimented with moving handlebars up and down and changing the angle. I did the same with the seat. In my case, no matter what the seat was bad. Then I tried the different seat.

Since you haven't been riding in a while, I would suggest to give
any seat at least 10 rides before changing it. Also, as goldfinch
has mentioned; switch only after all fit adjustments have been
tried. You may find that just getting your bum used to riding
again; that the seat you have is fine.

How long is your commute?

Be sure you get some good bike shorts. The seat I thought was no good works really well now with riding shorts. Ditch the undies when you ride, men's underwear really rubs the wrong way on long rides. Not sure about womens underwear, I've never ridden a bike while wearing panties. Any information about me wearing women's underwear is probably for a different forum.

Oh great tips guys. When I get my bike tomorrow I'll have time to tinker with it cause I need to ride it home. I'm bringing my tools and everything just in case. Hopefully it won't be too much tinkering.

LOL I plan on getting short liners or brief liners, I do not like bicycling shorts. I do not wear shorts...never did.

I ride a Selle Respiro Soft (http://www.selleroyal.com/Saddles_Category.aspx?c=respiroSoft). They have different levels of plushness. Mine's not cushy, but it's not hard either, and I LOVE it. I haven't had pain while riding with it, which is fantastic.

padded liners are fine but i'd just as soon wear regular bike shorts then put other pants or shorts over them. the only difference i really see with the so called "liners" are that they don't come up very high on the waist so you end up having plumbers crack riding down the street if you don't have long enough jerseys on. Of course i'm 6'3" so it's getting the long jersey that is a bit of a problem.

Bib shorts solves this problem but you are talking about commuting on your bike so thats probably not a great option.

I bought a pair of Pearl Izumi bike shorts off of Amazon. I just pull regular pants, or shorts or a skirt over them. It seems to work out ok. I also bought two pair of used mountain bike shorts from a poster at Team Estrogen. Great deal and I love the shorts.

Bike shorts under regular shorts or a skirt is the way to go for long rides. For short rides and errands, set up the bike so it's comfortable w/o the shorts.
