I have an '80 Motobecane with a Shimano 600 group. The hub is a Campagnolo Record. The rear derailleur wasn't behaving quite properly and we narrowed it down to the cassette wobbling on the hub. Would rebuilding it (take it apart, grease up, reassemble) have a chance of fixing it, or should I look into replacing parts?

Some cassette wobble is normal... What exactly is the derailleur doing?

On the extreme ends it is clicking/skipping irregularly. In the center gears it seems fine. A friend tried to re-align it for me and thought the derailleur was fine.

as Scottnobombs said some wobble is normal. If your friend tried to realign the derailleur without the proper tool it is still probably out of alignment. Take the bike to the LBS and ask them to check the alignment and adjust if needed, After that I would try some cable adjustment.
