Classic & Vintage - Can I post a Gunnar Sport if it has some classic parts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

My newest acquisition. Tore it down and put some nicer wheels, shifters, cranks, and derailleurs on it. Does the 600 tricolor derailleur set with SunTour ceramic pulleys make it ok to post here? It doesn't matter, I don't like posting in the RC forum anyways :D
At least it's steel from Waterford.
Now I only have 1 vintage bike out of 3 :(

Nice! (it'll be vintage some day) My youngest brother has that model (same size even), he loves it!

That's a beauty.
Adds some extra spice and class to C&V.

Gunnar is intriguing me lately. I wish they still made the Street Dog with cantilever mounts and gobs of fender clearance.
You got a lead on those pulleys? ;-)

Took it on a 30 mile ride this morning. It feels great. You can definitely feel the "sport" aspect of it. A little more upright and relaxed, hence the long stem to try to compromise. I was really looking for a nice steel bike that I can take on longer rides as I'm doing the RSVP this year and was originally going to build up a CV frame. Then this fell into my lap! For a helluva deal too. Best deal I've ever come across on a bike and I've had some damn good deals. I wish it were the Gunnar Roadie, but this fills the niche of long distance/rain bike. I love that it take fenders too.
The steel frame takes a ton of buzz out of the road, but it isn't whippy by any means. That seatpost and fork are also carbon so that may add to it.
Parts:
Ultegra/Open pro wheels
9 sp Tiagra shifters
600 tricolor derailleur set
Older EC90 seatpost
Fizik Pave CX HP saddle (hopefully the Brooks)
Gossamer Compact Crank (Soon to be a Shimano R600 compact)

I took it off a Superbe derailleur that I don't use. I was worried because shimano jockeys usually have some play in them. The SunTour ones have no play at all, but still work like a charm. Not that I'd notice a difference anyway... it's there just because it's cool!

Update:
I didn't like the big throws on the front STI (I am a Campy person when it comes to brifters) so I switched to bar end shifters. I've also replaced the FSA Gossamer compact crank with a Shimano R600 compact crank, planet bike fenders with VO hammered fenders, 600 tricolor derailleurs with modern Ultegra, Fizik Pave with a Brooks Pro saddle, Carbon seatpost/Alpha Q stem with silver Thomsons to make it look more classy. Let me know what you think.

Love the Gunnar bikes...........hence the r0ckh0und screen name. I have a Surly Pacer, I'm considering vintage drivetrain for it as well.
I do like the previous crankset much more than the current..............otherwise very nicely done.

My Kogswell has Simplex Retrofriction downtube shifters. Can I post it here?
Nice bike. I think anything Waterford built is classy enough for C&V. Just paint some lugs on it! :D

Thanks for the comments. I switched from the Gossamer to the Shimano because I don't like how FSA rings shift. The Shimano ones are pinned and ramped for better shifting IMO.

I think we would all like to see your Kogswell. I do wish this bike was lugged. I also think the welds could be finished a bit better, but it is one of the most comfortable bikes I have ever ridden.

I was joking. The Kogwell is a very practical frame, but it's not in the same league as a Waterford. It does ride nicely, however. I've had my eye out for a Gunnar Sport for a while now, but they so rarely come up, at least in my size. That's probably a testament to their ride quality.

I have to find someone around here that has a Gunnar I can test ride, as they look great.
Love the paint. So shiny.

I love the color, but the paint flakes off really easily. It is unfortunate that the Gunnar paint sucks. Supposedly a lot of people opt for the Waterford paint job for this reason.
