Classic & Vintage - So I just scored a 1963 dynohub off Ebay...

So I just scored a 1963 dynohub off Ebay. No idea if it works, but the price was right $23:) and the shipping was free. If the hub is DOA, I'm sure someone here could use it for spare parts to get their dyno back on its feet.

If perchance the hub is still functional; what would be the best lighting system to hook up to it? I was considering a set of Tung Lin lights from Yellow Jersey with the headlight bulb replaced with a lower wattage to meet the output of the hub. Are there any LED replacement options for lamps or bulbs that you've found to work will with these old hubs?

I'd probably be taking it to Harris Cyclery to be laced to a new wheel and get new bearings installed, if possible, too.

I have a few old Sturmey-Archer AG and FG hubs. I find the 1 watt LED lights work very well. I have tried: Supernova E3, Lumotec IQ Fly, Lumotec Lyt, Planet Bike Blaze. Every LED taillight that I've tried works fine as well. I did try a Lumotec N2 plus, which is a normal halogen light. However, no matter how fast I pedaled I couldn't get it lit up all of the way, and the taillight never came on either.

There are LED bulbs that fit the same screw base as the bulbs in old bicycle headlamps, but I've found them to be problematic. They're not the brightest thing around, they're more expensive than plain LED's, and its still a fair amount of work to install them.

Any of the better LED lights will work. I currently run the Busch and Muller IQ Cyo head light with a 4D Lite on the rear fender. A SA Dyno hub is good for 1.5-1.8 watts and not much more.
