I am trying to order a Phil BB doe some older SR/NR cranks for the Hetchins. I thought I needed an ISO taper but when asking Phill which length would work better the said I needed JIS??

so which would be correct? they offered this " We offer a 113mm JIS bottom bracket, which we can custom offset to +3mm on the drive side."

I would certainly order a custom offset provided the taper was correct.

the other two options were 110.5 with 3mm right offse BRSDoR. or a 115 with a 5mm right offset BRSD5R.

the Campy catalog I use for reference (the catlogue 18) calls for a 112 spindle with 3mm of right offset for a English BB?

so which do I get? :twitchy:

Sheldon seems to say Campi (atleast older) uses a ISO taper.

That crank is post CPSC so it takes the wider spindle, trust me, it was a major headache figuring that one out lol.

yes that is the crankset. thank you so much. I was not aware there was change in the cranks under the reflector laws LOL

if I moderator stumbles on this thread you can close it, unless others wish to keep debating this.

Lore is that pre-1994 Campy taper was slightly larger (end dimension) than ISO, and they changed to ISO in 1994. That's why Phil Wood has recommended the JIS. They didn't make an old-Campy taper, probably because it's close enough to JIS. For a "chunkier" taper end, you'd want a slightly shorter spindle, theoretically, than the original Campy one. Campy road spindles changed at CPSC-time because the crank arm raised boss on the back side was changed. Here's a useful link at Bicycle Classics:
