Commuting - How to Ride Safely on the Street

Hi there everybody, :) I have had a great passion for bicycling for a few years now. I especially love commuting using a combination of public transportation and cycling.

I've always dreamt of writing an article that explains the proper way to ride on the streets and finally I have completed it. I would like to share it with like minded cyclists such as yourself!

I hope this could be a good resource or reference for new cyclists who want to learn how to bike safely in coexistence with other cars. Education and a sense of personal responsibility is key to our harmony.

Thanks for the write-up. I am new to cycling and am trying to build up the confidence to ride in the road more. There are some roads where it's still a little scary because cars go 50-60 and there are hills and whatnot... but I'm working up to it. :)

Dunno if it's appropriate or true in all states, but I believe that riding outside the white line means that you are not on the roadway and may have lost some legal protections.

Also, it needs some proofreading for both misspellings and grammar.

Nice use of the word dreamt. Dreamt is the only word in the English language that ends in -mt, and it is rarely used properly. :) Sorry to go off topic.

Interesting. On its face there is little to fault. Nicely done, with graphics yet. But... the author completely ignored the 900lb gorilla in order to go after their pet peeve: lane sharing. I've driven in L.A. once. I don't plan to ever again. I didn't see cars getting or giving much respect to each other out there so I am dubious as to how much consideration cyclists would get trying to act like motorcycles (but without the horsepower) or other powered vehicles. I'd like to see some acknowledgment of the practice or stop sign strafing as often performed by street cyclists. One cannot claim to have written a comprehensive treatise on vehicular cycling without addressing red light behavior.
