Columbian road racing bikes back in the 70s if I remember correctly often had left-side drivetrains.

Because virtually all freewheels go in the same direction. Flip it over to the other side and the bike will freewheel forward. But you could ride it backward if you wanted.

Fixed gear bikes can be easily modified to left side drive. I thought about doing this once, but honestly I think it would freak me out. Idk why.

Actually, if a distributor has resellers willing - they can get LIDA freewheels from Taiwan in quantities of 500 per teeth spec that are left-handed to operate from the the left side.

Left side drive freewheels are pretty commonly available for BMX applications, although you do see them less now that freehubs have taken over in BMX.
