Northern California - Funny ride with my bro-in-law (sort of)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was ridng a couple weeks ago with my brother in law. He had never ridden a road bike before so I lent him my old Allez. (Not really old, it's a 2006!)

Did a really nice 20 mile ride around the Suisun area. But on the way back to Fairfield I took a relatively flat corner at a nice speed and my bro-in-law tried to follow. However, since he wasn't used to riding the bike he panicked and said he was heading straight for the curb and crashed. Luckily it wasn't a hard crash but he did end up busting my carbon seat post in half and bending the crap out of my rear wheel.

He was okay and came away with only some minor scratches but I like his gung ho attitude. Aside from that "minor" incident he still was interested in riding again. I may have piqued his interest in road bikes. Although I'll have to work with him on cornering and stuff! hehe! :thumb:

BTW, after trying to true the wheel it looks like the rim is bent! Anyone have a spare 9spd Shimano compatible rear wheel for sale for dirt cheap? :)

Then I can get my bro-in-law on the bike some more... if he promises not to break my stuff! haha! And I think I'll hold off on the clipless pedals for him for a while... Doh!!

I think I have an Alex rear that is usable.

Good for you for getting him into riding.

BTW, you're looking trim in your FB roller video.
