Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Yay!!! I'm fat.....

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
not obese!! My BMI has officially dropped below the obese catagory, and now I'm merely fat. Definitely cause for celebration! 25 pounds lost, 25 to go. I don't know if it's that I'm lighter or have 8 months' base, but biking is getting easier.

How tall are you, and how much do you weigh? I rarely go by BMI, because someone like a bodybuilder would have been considered obese by that standard.
Yeah, plus I'm an Athena, so the BMI could be a bit skewed, but I'm taking it as a victory, anyway. I'm 5'5" and 165.
congrats to you.
i probably should've weighed myself when i started, i have no clue what i weighed then... probably 230 @ 6'.
Way to go, tabriz! It's a great feeling, isn't it?
Congrtaulations!! I was happy when that happened to me so I know the feeling. Although I'm still just fat. But I'm riding more so that shouild help.

If you saw pictures of me when I was 270 you wouldn't have thought I was that heavy. Myself I am now 200 to 208. I am also 6'1" tall. According to the BMI I need to get to 189 to be normal weight (141 - 189 is normal weight for my height). No accounting at all for muscle mass.
Oh and at 5'5" and 165, you're not fat, or overweight. Sorry, I don't like the super model look for women.

Good for you, but BMI kind of sucks for any taller or shorter person. I think BMI is considered fairly accurate for the 5'3" - 5'9" range or so. Above and below that, the assumptions in the BMI tables don't hold true and they're practically useless. For example: I'm 6'2" and pretty lean and am considered obese.

I think the BMI is a bit skewed as well. But it does not hurt to get within shouting range of normal. I am shooting for 200 which is still above my BMI range by 15 pounds. I cannot see myself at 165-185. Maybe 190-195. Right now I am more concerned with BP and other indicators.

Mr. Sinister, no worries there, I will never have the super model look, and don't want it, either. I just don't want to look like an inflated bumblebee in my black shorts and yellow jersey!

I remember that day, when on my wii fit I went from Obese to Overweight :)
"normal" BMI for me at 6' is 185 lbs which is not going to happen. But I'm down to 210 from 248 & that's OK. I might make it to 200 & I'd still be "overweight." BMI is a bad measurement.

Congratulations!
I only have 9 pounds to go before I can say that I am merely "Seriously Obese." :-p

Tabrz, first off congratulations on the weight loss and the recategorization!
I don't know if it's that I'm lighter or have 8 months' base, but biking is getting easier.
This statement concerns me, however. You know what Greg LeMond said, right? :)

There's no question BMI has its limits as far as utility and accuracy are concerned, but it's a generally usefull tool to use as a benchmark along the way. It's true that it doesn't take body type and build into account, and because of that it has to be used in consultation with a health care professional, IMO. I'm a 5'-10" male, so the charts say normal for me is anywhere from 130 to 170. I have a fairly broad build, though, and that had to be taken into account when I set a goal weight for myself. So with my doctor's help, I settled on 165 - a weight at which, if I can achieve it, would have me pretty darned lean. And as I get closer to it, we'll see how it goes, and adjust accordingly if necessary. I guarantee you, though, if I took the chart at its word and shot for a "normal" 130, I'd end up looking like I'd just been liberated from Buchenwald.
Interestingly, even though I'm still 30 pounds away from my goal weight, acquaintences are already starting the "don't lose any more weight" speeches. I say "acquaintences" because actual friends know better. But even the ladies at the weigh-in table at WW are starting to say they can't imagine me losing that much more. I can usually put an end to all those conversations pretty quickly by smiling at them and saying, "oh, but you haven't seen me naked."

I've had people say "I can't believe you weigh what you weigh" so I guess I carry it fairly well. The weight charts for women say I shouldn't weigh more than 141. If I could get to 141 I think I will have died and gone to heaven. But, I'm not 20 anymore, so 145-150 will be just fine! Heck, right now, 160 would be fine and dandy!

Gratz on the weight loss. If you take it one day at a time, you'll be there before you know it. I'm over 200 pounds and have struggled the older I get to keep it below 200. Now I just base it on how well my clothes fit. When they become a little loose I know I'm doing well.
Keep up the good work.

I used to use the same measure but now, none of my clothes fit...
Seriously...

Well is that because they're too loose or too tight? ;-)

Same here, I've lost 50 pounds and I am still considered obese according that the BMI thing. I'm 6' 245, which nobody believes when I tell them, and I would need to lose another 25 pounds to not be in the obese category.

quasi-ditto 5'9" and 235. I got down to 210, lost my gall bladder, got out of my exercise routine....
the people at the weight guessing booth hate me.

Lost mine 1st of this year as well. Had to take off a month, still not perfect, but I'm back riding again.
Interestingly enough, I felt bad all last year and barely rode one time. Once the brainiacs figured out it was my GB and I had it removed, life has begun to reappear. Riding has never been so much fun!
i say it took almost 2 years for the primary effect of the GB removal to become manageable.

I was considering going to light weight pedals on another PX-10 frame I am putting together - Here I am considering grams subtracted from the weight of my bike - And thats after a 50# weight loss since September...
CONGRATULATIONS!!! on your new category...
Go buy something light weight for your bike...
