A physicist, an engineer, and a statistician go deer hunting. They eventually find a deer in a clearing about 100 yards from their position.
The physicist does a ballistic calculation, based on the powder charge in the ammo (but assuming no air friction), raises the rifle 23.5 degrees, and fires. The bullet lands 10 yards in front of the deer.
The engineer takes the physicist's calculations, adds in a fudge factor, raises the rifle 26 degrees, and fires. The bullet lands 10 yards beyond the (apparently deaf) dear.
The statistician yells "we got him!"
