Fifty Plus (50+) - Well, it's May 15th and 34.5 F outside and misty - what to do?

Isn't it supposed to be warming up by May 15th?

34.5F in the air means the wooden-surfaced bridges will be icy, and it will be darn cold otherwise, especially with the mist.

But, it is the day before we leave for 9 days of confinement on a cruise ship - not much bicycle riding there, except for spinning and for one port, where we have a ride scheduled.


Choices:

Nice walk, where I will be pretty warm
Swim (doesn't open for 1.5 hours), but the water is warm
Bundle up and ride the mtn bike - safer in these conditions.
Work out in the home gym
Relax and read the newspaper
Play on the computer

Hmm!!

Can you say - rest day?

Temp now down to 34F.

Decision time:

I did a full-body workout yesterday. So my bod needs a day of rest.
I hate sitting around "relaxing"
My wife will want to take a walk later on
I can play on the computer any time.

So, I am going to throw a swimming suit in the bike, go for a short ride, have some breakfast along the way, and then ride to the rec center and swim.

Can you say - rest day?

DF, I'm watching the Tour of Italy at the moment, plus airing the tires on the mountain bike. the weather is fantastic here, but we're in the middle of a drought and really, really need rain.

Warming up nicely

Did a ride yesterday, arm exercises today, a 5 mile walk manana.
After that, I'm not sure, the weather is supposed to be crappy this week.
But I have to do a ride midweek at some point, got a tour coming up.

Same here on the west side of the Berkshires. Although in looking at the weather radar we are under a much greener blob than you.
I think I'll head for the gym for a simulated bike ride...

The spinning classes on ships help as do riding stationary bikes. Also one excursion at a port on a cruise we went on was mountain biking. Overall I got back with about the same level of cycling I left with.

I wish i had your problems guys, i'm in Yorkshire, England. It's raining and very windy with occasional really strong gusts but we're used to it here.

I simply don't get the point of most cruise ships.

There is one liner that has good food and overall sounds like a decent experience.

But it costs as much as a real vacation.

Welcome to my weather this spring, warmest day so far hit all of 16 degrees celsius which works out for the Yanks to about 60 degrees F.

Glad you got something in. I went to the gym at work but forgot they were closed on Sunday so I went back home, set the trainer up in the garage and did a mindless hour pedal session. Now it's house work for the rest of the day.

Here in the northeast we are in for a grim week of wet. Today I rode with rain gear at the ready on a rear rack and on the return trip it began to rain. This was actually part of the plan to check out my wet weather tactical readyness for a tour or two this summer. The rain gear, which is from my backpacking days, worked fine for rain but the bottoms are a bit baggy and got tangled in the chain, even cinched up with a rubber band. A few minutes on the sewing machine will fix that problem. With continuing rain this week it appears I'll get even more wet practice.

In Tucson today: 93 degrees (cooler than yesterday!), 3% humidity, cloudless and 20+ mph 'breeze' . . .
Yup, warmer weather is comin'!

I think I'd crackle into powder at that humidity level, I start to dry out at 50%, zona!

I had a great mountain bike ride with my older daughter's SO. Lots of narrow single track and a few challenging decents... knobbies would've been much better than my Double Fighter Duals as I had the rear locked during one entire 45-50 degree decent, ground is just sooo dry. I only fell once when avoiding a couple of tree fall logs and ran into a litter of them. ;)

Hopefully everyone had as good a day today as I had.

Yeah, i'm in South Yorkshire and you're talking about Haworth which is north-east of me, about 40 miles. I don't get up there much but i have been known to do a spot of Wuthering up there on my FSR.

I was going to suggest you watch the Tour of California, but that didn't work out so well either....even those guys didn't ride.
