What's wrong with the color? The Expert is not as desirable as the Master with 600 bits but still a very nice ride for the less tall person. It's a good guess that the front tire is shot as well. 175mm cranks on a 50cm frame is either a replacement or a misprint. It's unlikely a short person would want cranks that long. It would most likely have come with 170mm but I have seen a 48cm with 165's.
Bar tape is ratty but otherwise it looks clean and the saddle might be pretty nice cosmetically as well. Unless the brake hoods are torn they would clean up and be white again.

I am not the Ironman expert, (Mr. Tunes) but I have sold a handful of them. If it was all clean, ready to ride with new tires and bar tape I would be asking $275+ in my market. If I was buying in it's present state.. less. Small frame size = premium price.

I just figure the market for people who want pink bikes is a bit limited :) I actually kinda like that combo though. If it was 55-58 I'd be negotiating for it

if you are posting bikes that are listed for sale you should post the asking price

only saying cause youve posted a few bikes and it's easier to say "yes buy" or "no don't buy" if you tell the asking price vs hoping someone will give you an exact amount

if your original post had said it was an ironman for $60 i would have told you to drop everything and go get the bike this second lol

ironman expert in good condition is worth 250ish.. there has been one listed for 225 in my area for a month now but the seller includes no info about the bike

a master maybe 350ish... depends on how much you like the particular paint job and the condition of everything.

i recently completed my ironman build and i have to say it's the nicest bike ive ever owned.. If i had the money i would pay $400+ for a mint ironman with one of the more outrageous paint jobs

oh when I posted it the asking price was $250, I was on the second go around it would seem. good idea though

yeah, at 250 it is still a fair price assuming it's all original and doesn't need any work. not a steal but fair. the guy who bought it for 60 and is reselling it for 250 should at least replace the bartape and tires..

the frames on the expert and master are the same, just not quite as nice components on the expert, and different paint jobs

I tried. I am in Denver, the bike was in the Houston metro area but I have in-laws there so I call my father in-law and he says he will go get it for me then he calls back an hour later and tells me he can't. All this after correspondance with the first seller. Do you know how hard it was to call the seller and tell him never mind? The seller was holding it for me until my father in-law got there. Ugh, Dang in-laws. I'll remember this at Christmas time.

I would've been tempted to tip him off about the value of the bike if I couldn't pick it up myself and he had agreed to hold it for me since most other people on CL around here are jerks and sell the item whenever they want, even if you've agreed upon a date/time/location).

+1 and can spoil a decent deal for potential buyers. I found a bike 2 weeks ago in my size and undervalued at $100. I offered a reasonable price at $200 and was set to pick it up. Someone decided that since they couldn't have it at $100 they would tell the seller the "real value". It now lingers on CL at $500.

I feel like someone did that with this guy and immediately want to eat my words. how does a bike go up $75 overnight? :p

That's a bummer. I bet he had lots of calls on it and decided it must be priced too low or someone clued him in. Still, for 275 I'd go look at it and perhaps bargain it down. It looks nice.

BTW, I lived in Seabrook/Kemah in the early 90's

that rear derailleur looks like it says Shimano 600 which would be an upgrade.. if it's all shimano 600 it would def be sellable for 275.

yes they're full size :P When I asked for new pictures he took some... then put them on the CL ad instead of emailing them to me, so they got tiny again

just wanted to thank you guys for discussing auctions and these oldschool bikes! i was searching through posts looking for info on my old ironman and found this conversation. do you guys know which year/model had suntour GPX components? or was that just one of the optional packages? I'm thinking it's a 1987. but now im not so sure!

it's an 1989 expert.. GPX was the standard gruppo on the 89. "blue smoke" is what the paint is called around here usually

the # after the N in the serial number tells you what year it was manufactured.. usually that is the model year too but not always

yep.. or if the seller has already been bombarded, they are going to reply to the people who aren't asking a bunch of questions.

when jumping on a deal you have to take the risk and answer the questions yourself when you're looking at the bike in person. when i email i just say i'm interested and want to come look whenever is convenient for the seller. i always use complete sentences, proper grammar, and leave my name and phone number. i've gotten good responses so far :)

After I bought my Centurion Sport DLX, the local shop had a pink Ironman. I didn't want to get it bc I lived in Beaumont, TX, largely a blue collar town, and I was afraid I would get beaten up!
