whats the general consensus on riding with a child in a trailer?

paved bike trails only?
take it on the road?
ride on the sidewalk?

i dont own a bike trailer, but have been thinking about getting one for my 6 year old. i ride on the road anytime i ride and feel safe enough. i dont know if i would feel safe taking my child on the road too. any input?

Never used a trailer, so I can't help you there. My son started out on a child seat, but has since graduated to a Trail-a-Bike (http://www.trail-a-bike.com/). We stick to surface streets and paved trails. When traveling on the streets I use two blinkies and the included safety flag. Motorists tend to give us a wide berth.

I'll go where ever it is safest. For that is typically on the road or on a trail and almost never on the sidewalk.
