Classic and Vintage Bicycles: What's it Worth? Appraisals and Inquiries - 12 spd Panasonic dx1000
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
condition looks pretty nice. any guesses? I think the 1000 was the low end model, so I was thinking $60-$80 or so (ad says it needs new tires)
It looks like a 1988
For $100 that is a good buy, Panasonic made quality bikes even though this is on the lower end of their racing bikes.
The seller gave me the standover height when I asked for the size, which was 28", so I'm going to guess it's going to be a 52cm :/
Just be aware that the tires and brakes look original so you will probably want to replace them before you go too far. So add another $40 if you do it yourself.
BTW, the Biopace crank set is my favorite.
he remeasured and gave me 18" (so 45ish cm) to the top tube. looks like the gf might get herself a bike afterall. finding one this small is pretty rare on craigslist. think I'll offer $80 (since it's not for me) and see where it gets me

where i live this bike would be snatched up quickly for $100.. that is pretty much the lowest price any good condition road bike would sell for. the specs on that bike are Tange 900 frame with hi-ten fork, shimano "light action" components..
if you are going to make an offer on a bike, make the offer in person. it's very easy to ignore/turn down an offer made through email. if it's in ok condition be prepared to pay $100 if they don't like your offer because it's still a fair price
talking through text messages. asked if firm on price instead of throwing an offer. going to pick it up regardless
have the bike. it's 45cm, so borderline unrideable for me and my friends :p frame seemed to be in great condition considering the age, tubes were good in the wheels but they do need to be replaced and trued. a bit of rust on the front hub, can't tell if that's causing it to squeak or if its the old brakes (have had it home literally 30 seconds).
he agreed on $90 but didn't have change for my $100 outside of some ones, so got it for $93. I kinda wish I had offered $80, as it definitely needs some TLC (and I think he would've said yes), but I can live with the price I paid for it, especially considering how rare 44-48cm frames seem to be in Houston. Guess this one is going to be flipped if the gf doesn't want it.

are you sure the rust isn't just dried up grease that oozed out the sized of the hub?
always bring random bills when planning on making an offer ;) if you bring four $1 bills, one $5 bill and one $10 bill (plus 20s obviously) you will be covered for any amount
not sure :) will take a look
also came with a cateye that doesn't appear to be responding. is that worth trying to get working? looks like an old one with a half assed install job, but I'm not sure how to tell what's wrong with it, I've owned one my entire life
some of these spokes appear to be in pretty rough shape, I'm wondering if I should just get an entry level wheelset for this or just relist as is and let someone else make it a project.
it really didn't seem all that small when I got on it, I think I'll keep it at least until I get my soma built up
couldn't find my camera, did my best to take pictures with a laptop heh
