My dad is clearing out the garage and wants me to take his old bicycle to the tip. I don't know exactly how old it is, my grandad bought it for him when he was about 10-12 (my dad was born in 1955) He doesn't want it taking up space anymore and claims it was never really a sought after, quality bike. He doesn't think it's worth anything but I think it would be a bit of a shame to throw this bicycle away after it's survived this long.

It's a red Dawes D'artagnan, condition; I'd say reasonable, although it probably needs a bit of fixing up.

I just want to know if there's any kind of demand for old bicycles like this, if it's worth putting it on ebay or some other website or if there's anywhere I could give it away to rather than just sending it to the local rubbish tip.

you could try listing it on craigslist if you want to give it away. not sure how busy your regional section is on the site though

I'll have a look on craigslist now. Are there many UK members on this forum?

I think you could get more than a tenner for it... as salvage the three speed hub alone is worth > $30.00 as it is a 50's model and these are very well made.

It looks like a very nice bicycle and the name is very cool... believe it must have been inspired by the popularity of the Musketeers during the 60's.

The real D'artagnan was an impressive figure as well.

The hub shell will have a date code on it.
