I won this auction for a supposedly "new" sugino messenger crankset. They turned out to be used. The seller has been really gracious and offered a full refund. However, I'm debating whether to keep them. I like the color combination and the price was really good. I've only seen these with the same color chainring and cranks, so I wonder if these were not factory built.

The signs that they've been used are dirt/chain marks on the teeth. They don't look totally worn out or anything. I'll post pics of them when I get home from work.

What do you guys think? Should I keep them or return them? Does anyone have an idea of whether Sugino actually sells this crankset prebuilt in this color combination?

Thanks!

Keep them; that just sounds/ looks like shop wear to me... i.e. they used it in the shop for a bike which perhaps somebody test rode and in between the build and the cranks, the cranks were removed due to an upgrade or part out or etc. So minimal use. And since you got them for such a good price, why not keep them?

You got them for less than half of retail. If you like them, keep them. They're going to look "used" after the first time you ride your bike anyway.

You can clearly tell the chainring has been used from the pictures. It has dirt on it, lol.

Regardless, the price is solid. Just keep 'em and ride!
