Hello!
My polo bike has been on its last legs (small crack near seat stay) for some time. Fortunately a friend found a beaten up 49cm Soma Rush and gave it to me to build-up. It's literally just the frame and everyone I play with is having a field day explaining what I should do with it and why. The problem is that a lot of this discussion is over my head. I've taken it to the lbs in my town to ask their advice and was told they don't deal much with "the track trend."
I rode on a friend's fixed gear (iro?) for a bit and didn't mind the "zippy" feel of it, but I distinctly remember the toe-overlap was pretty extreme. That would be nothing short of a death-trap in polo. I've sent an email to Soma, but I thought I would ask for a general opinion here too. (Thank you!) Here is a link to the geometry for the frame (http://www.somafab.com/geometry03.html). I'd like to put a 650c wheel up front. I do ride with 165mm cranks, clipped in and front/rear brakes. I've contacted a nearby frame builder about a custom fork for the build as well. Everyone seems in support of the 650 wheel, but I've pulled up a lot of conflicting opinions about how it will ruin the bike's handling. I know polo is a different sort of beast in that regard, but am I going about this all wrong?
Any help/advice is really appreciated! I'm excited at the idea of an upgrade and just want to make sure I fully understand my options....and their consequences. :)
