General Cycling Discussion - Need advice- Gears not shifting after tune up-

Hey all,
I'm new to this forum but I wondering if I could get some input on my situation.

I bought a brand new Scott Sportster in July and took it in to the local shop for a tune up after the first 50 miles because I was experiencing a slight clicking in second gear. The shop worked on it for a total of 15 minutes, and gave it back to me free of charge.
After getting it back, my bike completely skips 2nd gear and goes right into 3rd, producing a clicking sound while riding. I haven't used the bike since that first ride after getting it back from the shop, and just took it out this season to start riding, but I still have the gear skipping problem.

I took it into the same shop today to get it checked out, and they want to charge me for a full tune up.. but I'm expecting them to fix the problem for me since it didn't exist until after I took it to them for the initial tune up.

What do you guys think? (Brand new bike with less than 100 miles on it)

I think you waited too long to complain. Pay for it or learn to fix it yourself. I learned myself. I can't stand waiting to have someone adjust something I didn't want adjusted in the first place.

I don't think I've *ever* been in a reputable bike shop that would charge for an easy derailler adjustment for a bike that was purchased there.

That being said, symptoms like that point to one of two things, a cable tension issue, or a bent derailler hanger.

The first is easy to deal with; Since it's shifting farther than it should, turn the barrel adjuster on the derailler clockwise about an eighth of a turn. Do it a few times and see if the shifting improves.

if it doesn't help, the other possibility is a bent derailler hanger, which is relatively easy to replace.

yup just crank it with your hand as you turn your tention adjuster little by little till the chain goes where it's suppose to
