These have the reynolds 631 frame and carbon fork.

Really good deal, IMO. Plus they offer good customer service and do a pro build and inspection before shipping...

There is a stickied great deal / sale thread; no need to start a new thread. Also, no need to be a jerk, just post the facts.

Edit: I see you posted in the deal / sale thread w/o the obnoxious commentary.

I vote /thread.

calm down guys. It's a good deal and from a reputable dealer who actually takes the time to inspect and build the bikes before shipping. So not only is it a better bike than anything you can find on BD at that price range, but it also has customer service to back it.

I strongly support the Jamis Sputnik. I ****ing love mine. At the moment its with a good friend who currently doesn't have a bike and I miss it on the daily.
Only reason its gone is because it's got toshi's on it, my other bike is clipless :/

I'm really not trolling. I edited my OP. I think it's a no brainer that at that price it's better than anything you could find on BD at the same price point.

I've been eyeing those as well. 2009 stock means they are 631 + the carbon fork.

2010: 631 no carbon fork.
2011: 520 no carbon fork.

Jamis has slowly ruined the sputnik.

Not sure if I wanna spring for it yet, as they have been sitting there at that price for a while.

What I was told, is that Jamis made a butt load of these 2009 sputniks and that they have a HUGE overstock. This company orders them directly from Jamis as orders come in. So it's not like they are sitting on the floor or in the back of these stores. Some guy is doing the same thing on ebay only he's charging $799 plus shipping. Granted he's accepting best offer but he's not budging much on that price.

It's a great deal an older but better model, imo. The new sputniks don't even compare.

How on earth is it cheaper? Your bike on BD cost at least $795 shipped. The sputnik is $570 shipped. Last time I checked 795-570 is 225. The sputnik has a better frame as well.

I might end up buying on if a few ebay auctions don't go the way I want 'em to. The Jamis tempts because of the better tubing and better geometry than my iro, BUT

it doesn't look at sexy as my bike.

Bro you are comparing feces to diamonds. You need to compare apples to apples.

List price on yours for a 2011 is $899.99. List price on mine for a 2011 is $795.95.

The bike you are displaying is 2 years old. Try looking at what a 2 year old bike like mine goes for. It will be cheaper and better.

Where do I even begin ripping this post to shreds?

For one, the 2009 Jamis Sputnik is a completely different animal than the new 2011 Jamis Sputnik. The 2009 sputniks featured a reynolds 631 frame with a carbon fork...the newer ones don't.

Are you still with me?

List price has little to do with what a bike actually sells for, especially in the case of a bicycle being on sale.

Still following?

The list price on your bicycle(according to BD which is highly inflated), is nearing $1,500. But it has a street price of $795. The 2009 Sputnik has a retail price of $900, but is on closeout for $570 shipped.

Still with me, brah?

With all of that said, your original comment was that your bicycle was cheaper than the bike I posted, which is in fact, not true. Your bike is currently $795, the Jamis is $570 shipped.

School is out boys and girls.

And by the way, the new 2011 Jamis sputniks have an MSRP of $675, much cheaper than the 2009 models because they took several steps back on this years model. Next lesson is on the difference between MSRP(which is the retail price or "list price" of a product)and the street value of a product(which is the actual price that mommy and daddy pay for your widdle bicycle).

the sputnik is a wonderful steel frame. I would have absolutely no objections to it at that price. I paid 500 for mine used and I have NO regrets about it.

Yes, the BD Team Track is awesome for what it is. But if you want a slightly more road oriented, steel frame 631 is going to be a steal in this setup.

OP should just buy all of them for himself since the deal is so good.

I road an IRO Mark V Pro briefly last summer. Also Reynolds 631. Was nice, and that deal price is solid.

That said, the Motobecane Team Track is much more "do want".

Team Track is a DO NOT want from me. Maybe if I was a racer on a budget...but I'm a commuter in the Easy Bay where roads are awful and that think looks like it would be hell on my private parts.

Sjmartin's version of the Motobecane probably cost over $1500.

This sputnik is $570. Of course the motobecane is much more "do want". I was comparing price points. Sjmartin said his motobecane team track was cheaper than the jamis sputnik on closeout. He is lollable and I will continue to school him if he keeps posting in this thread.

I would take the 2009 sputnik over a kilo TT pro any day of the week.

Ah, well I go to school in central Illinois where the roads down south in the cornfields are smoooooooth. To each his own, ya know?

Of course I want those deep Reynolds tarck wheels. They're flippin sweet. But for what it's worth, I was referring to a BD stock MTT, which I would gladly save the extra $230 for.

Well a Kilo TT Pro is $400, so by your logic it's not much of a comparison, huh? And don't bother comparing BD's MSRPs since we all know they are dumb. Assuming the prices were the same, you'd be dumb not to take the Sputnik since it comes with 631 and a crabon fork.

$449...but who's counting? My beef with sjmartin, is that he said he paid less for his MTT, which is false. He paid over $200 more for it.

KTTPs are on sale for $399 right now. Internetz beef dude. Let it go. $570 shipped for an '09 Sputnik is a good deal, so whoever is in the market for a nice steel sw8 fixxys, has $570, and can fit the available sizes should probs get this one. Happy?
